Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi all,

can anyone point me to the correct way how to apply a RDK material.
i would like to obtain a smooth render mesh with a custom material.

i proceeded like this:
- mesh brep
- custom preview -> RMB on "S" (Shader input) -> RDK Material -> choose Material by double click -> editor closes while appearence of the mesh will not change.

it seems like i am unable to apply the RDK material properly.

any helpful hints much appretiated!

ps: additionally i seem to have an issue with not being able to turn of mesh edge visibility. anyone?

win7 on dell workstation
rhino4
GH 0.7.0057

thanks in advance,
frank

Hi Frank,

the RDK isn't available yet through RhinoCommon (we're working on this, but it will take a while). I used some very nasty PInvokes with Grasshopper 0.6 to communicate with the RDK, but those are no longer possible now.

It will be a while before everything is hooked up again.

Hi David,

I am aware that this is a very old thread but I just ran into the same issue and so I thought I'd ask what the current status is on this issue.

Whenever I select a RDK material for a "Shader" parameter, it doesn't seem to do anything.

Best regards,

Mathias

hi david,

thanks for the info. it was just a bit strange because i knew it already worked before...

is there a way to turn off mesh edge visibility when using custom preview? i seem to be unable to turn them off..

BTW: unfortunately i have little time to use GH ATM nor can i find a way to blend GH into my daily work, but i do follow the development and have to say: i am a fan! thanks for the good work. looking forward to see it prosper.

best,
frank
Hi Frank,

this is a bug. The Custom Preview object should listen to the Mesh Wire setting in the View menu. It doesn't right now. I'll fix it.

Thanks David.

Hi David,

Has this been fixed yet? I still cant seem to set the RDK material in the shader component.

Has anyone else figure out a different way to set RDK material?

Best,

S

I downloaded the RDK but I still cant set shader component to that specific RDK material.

Hi Seb,

I'm not sure. The RDK developers have been doing a lot of stuff, but I think everything they added is Rhino5 only. I'll have a chat with them, see what we can do.

Yes, that would be great. I am using Rhino5 at the moment but I cant seem to set anything on the RDK material.

Thanks,

Seb
