Event Description

Instructors:

Yves Klett Universität Stuttgart,

Rupert Maleczek [Universität Innsbruck KOGE]

This workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to explore different folding strategies for surface approximation. Folding as a production method  and as a design paradigm has recently become the focus of interest in several areas and especially in architecture.

From freeform surface approximation to deployable and/or  lightweight sandwich structures a wide range of architectural and design applications is feasible. This workshop will introduce several folding design strategies, from modular isometric origami to reticular structures created from linear folded stripes.

During the workshop participants will explore folding through physical and digital modeling. As the workshop will show different approaches and techniques different software packages will be used, including Rhino / Grasshopper and Mathematica. Basic skills with Rhino / Grasshopper are required for productive participation.
