Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I would like to use GH (and maybe Galapagos) to rebuild similar geometries. The design is based on some curved shells and each shell is created by 6 curves.

(image shows one shell)

The panells are uniaxial surface - straight lofts based on arcs with different radius.

I would like to create a definition which analyzes the lofts, searches for identical/similar curvature and rebuilds the panelling to maximize the amount of identical curved lofts.

The aim is to minimize the effort for molding.

First I started just comparing the curvature at given points but this is not really usefull, because a points curvatures is meaningless in order to compare moldings for large surfaces.

My strategy at the moment is to create a molding based on the two lofted arcs and the vector between their centerpoints. This results in a truncated cone which can be compared with other cones.

But I have no idea how to find out if a surface can be described as part of that truncated cone. Which surface information do I need to check if two different paneels can be created with one molding?

Any help or ideas are welcome....

Thanks
