Problem on creating a dome by using hexagons

I am trying to build a roof structure by reference to compound eyes. The basic concept is to create a hexagon grid and place a point as a repulsor or an attractor in order to pump up a certain area. But the problem is that each hexagon is too far away from another. I want to find a way to cap those gaps.
