algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi David,
We are extensively using GH in our workflow for quite large geometry applications. For strategic reasons, we are looking at effective ways to password protect these definitions.
I have read some posts on this forum dealing with the question, and I am aware of the cluster option. But as definitions get larger, and particularly when using the Path Mapper component, it becomes a very lengthy process which in some case ends up breaking some of the imbedded links.
With regard to file protection, I was wondering, if in addition to clustering, it could be possible to simply hide a selection of components, in a similar fashion as GH allows hiding of the wiring, and bolt a password assignment on the hide/unhide selection. For information purpose, if a definition was to contain hidden components, the display could indicate this in some graphic way.
Not sure how real this could be, but if enabled, it should allow quick file protection without interacting with the file at the definition level, but only at its display level. Beyond file protection, this could also ease file manoeuvring, and sometime yield a more comfortable display.
Any thought on this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for reading through.
Regards
Ari

Hi Ari,
I could add protection like that, but if the logic has to be read and run from a gh file without passwords it will be a piece of cake for a programmer to break the protection. The same is technically true for clusters as well, and I'm not happy about providing a password protection scheme that is so easily punctured. I'm worried people will trust it too much.

Talking about the future release(s) and remote control (this may not be the right discussion for that, but its also about UI stuff), is it possible to run Rhino with GH in the background (hidden) and show just the remote control(would be cool to see it as a tab in the Rhino window) ? This type of action may occur when user will try to open the .gh file.
Technically yes. The old Remote Control worked with the main window hidden but there was never an option to open a file in this way.

David, thanks a lot for your quick reply.
At equal protection level, if we get an easier process and a more reliable solution, than that sounds beneficial. But I understand your concerns about people putting too much trust in it. This has limitations that need to be understood by the users.
Obviously remote access would be an excellent solution.
