Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I try to simulate the hanging of a surface made of triangles linked by hinges on the 3 sides and suspended to many points.

I did a test on kangaroo attached but it's not working, I didn't found any tutorials about this kind of structure.

Is someone have a solution to do this ?

have a nice day

Hi Paul,

You can set different rest lengths of each of your hinges(nodes) springs, thus result in irregular shaped surface.

Reset your shape (using Boolean toggle) each time you use the "Shuffle shape of the final surface" number slider.

thanks a lot, it's really nice !

The result is great but do you think it's possible to set with precision some anchor point to simulate a hanged structure to a ceiling ?

Yes, it is possible. You can set a specific Z coordinate for each node separately, using Gene Pools.
In case you increase the number of surface divisions, increase the number of Gene Counts too.

NICE !

it's seems the system do not act like inges, the result is the same but this is not a mechanical simulation. I try to do a real wood structure hanged from ceiling with CNC pieces and metal hinge. The simulation would tell me how the whole structure react when you hang it.

I know it seems complex but I need a tool to simulate the physical structure.
