Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys.

I'm new to grasshopper. I've created a geodesic dome in grasshopper through the points which define the centre of each hexagon. I then used the facet dome to create the hexadome. I then extruded the surfaces a defined distance to the centre of the sphere. But I cant get ride of the over lapping of the solids on the inner side of the dome. I need the vertices of on the inner side of the dome to align to each other. Also is there a way to locate and group similar hexagons, or find a pattern in the variation of the sized of the hexagon. I've attached the rhino and grasshopper file

Here's a solution to the first part of your question.

hey Chris thanks a lot. What version of grass hopper is this on. It wont open the file.

Faraz,

Here's a solution for the second question but I didn't check it carefully.  It may have redundancies and omissions.  It groups faces by the same area.  I didn't have time to unscramble it for clarity...but will do so later if it would be helpful.

I'm using 0.8.0050.

Hey Chris thanks a lot. Both algorithms were extremely useful. I am having problem with the algorithm when i try to increase the frequency of point to facet. Any suggestions? also is it possible to add a number slider to the equation that is extruding the surfaces inwards?

also if i add any point to the equation it stops sorting the similar faces. why is that?

This should solve the problem of increasing the frequency and it provides a slider to change the shell thickness.

it didnt solve the problem. Did u try it out on the new set of points?

I can't get the definition to work with the entire sphere of higher frequency points.  It does work if you only select a hemisphere or less of points.  I don't know why it does this.  It seems to be a limitation of the Facet Dome component.

here the higher frequency file

Chris the second equation doesn't seem to be working to well. some of the cells are being counted twice under different areas.

I noticed this but don't see why it's happening.

Hi Faraz,

Really interested in having a look at your latest script but it wont allow me to open the file. Can you save it to version 0.8.004 it would be much appreciated.
