HELP! "Offset surface" splits the surface and offsets them in different directions :(

Hey,

I have a little problem. I want to offset the surface you can see in the picture on the right site. The surface on the left site is the result I got by Grasshopper. The Grasshopper code worked on easy samples without problems but on this multiple surface it didnt worked. Someone knows why? PLz help :)

Well of course, with a simpler (and clean) polysurface, it should be lot easier.

By the way, you generated this from a point cloud ?

I wonder if you could do better with just grasshopper instead of using rhinoresurf. Upload the original points or mesh if you are interested.

I think I am not allowed to show you the point cloud but here is another easy sample the pointcloud i used consists of around 40000 points.

Is it possible to convert the pc into a surface in grasshopper?

You could try it with the small sample

Fast try.

For your information, the average distance between sample points and surface is 0.013175, standard deviation 0.029748.  Mostly because some points are ignored.

Not great but I preferred a nice looking surface.

wow that looks good :)

and it is possible to create the surface automatically in grasshopper if you have the point cloud? Just choose the points in rhino and thats all? Or is it more complicated?

Iam interested definitely !!!! :P

[what I found is MeshEdit in the description was an function to convert a point cloud into a mesh but i havent tried till now I will do it tomorrow (for grasshopper too)]

Basically if the 40000 points are behaving like the 4000 points, yes, choose, click, wait, bake.

No way to tell though, I am not expert at all in 3D sampling etc.

would it be possible that I could try the program on my point cloud or dont you want to hand out?

This is a very interesting topic i think

Well anyway, for some reason you cant open my definitions.

contact@systemiq.eu if you can send the big point cloud for testing.
