Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I have a basic question. I am trying to generate a mesh of filled pipes. I have tried both cap flat and cap round. It looks like some pipes of the mesh is hollow and some are filled... (se attached screenshot). How do I make all of them filled? (Or maybe they already are?)

Thanks for answer!

If you want help with your GH usage, post your GH file.

So, I tried to 3D-print the meshes generated by cap round but the edges were not made solid... (se attached pictures and files). Would be happy for any help to solve this!

Thanks!

The connections between the pipes are not solid

1. For 3D printing you need not convert the pipes to a mesh. Just bake the results of the Pipe component and export it as an STL file.

2. The 2 curves forming the bottom right corner are not connect - there is a gap there, so the pipes will not connect unless you make them larger and put rounded ends on them.

3. Most any 3D printer will have problems printing something as long and thin as your pipes are.

4. Attached is a screenshot of a section of you pipes (with flat ends to make them closed surfaces)  after slicing with the Slic3r program. Except for that one outside corner, everything is connected. I'd suggest you try again with a layer height of 0.200 mm (or smaller) and a printer nozzle of 0.400 mm diameter (or smaller).

5. If you click on the Internalize option for the Crv component you will not need the Rhino file any longer - doing that loads the Rhino geometry into your GH file directly and saves it there.

6. Your pipes will need a lot of supports for 3D printing - but you already know that. Removing the support material from something that flimsy will be quite difficult. You would have better luck if you had a way to print them using a resin based printer - but these usually have smaller print volumes and are expensive.

Thank you for your help!! I will try with baking it without the mesh and make it a bit thicker. This is for a first draft model, later on I will print it with a better printer that I hope is resin  based.

Hello Birk.

When I import the file (STL) to the 3D-printer, some of the connections are solid, but some are not. Please, have a look at the screenshots and tell me if you know what the problem could be.

Thanks!

Madeleine

It's not clear to me why you are getting the results you are. What slicing program are you using?
