Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I was playing with Kangaroo plugin and came up with this form where the load force only applies on mesh's naked vertices.

my question is what is the proper term to use to describe this form? from a structure point of view. can we call it a catenary shell? a Self-Supporting Surfaces? or is it a tensile (non-self supporting) thing?

the process is deforming the shell by the forces, and the stiffness in the mesh is what is holding in the place.

you could call the form a catenary shell, since in all probability the stresses will be uniform across the form.
