Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I have been working on a school project using Grasshopper and have experienced some problems that perhaps somebody can help me with. I created a surface by lofting between two curves in Rhino and I would like to be able to run rectangular slats perpendicular to the direction of the two curves and along the loft. I can get it to work just fine when I have the curves vertically and the perpendicular rectangles in the z axis, however, when I change the axis it stops working. Is there a way to fix that?

Thanks

Hi Juan I am looking into something very similar...getting perpendicular slats along a lofted surface...no luck yet...here are some experiments I have been working with...care to share some ideas...maybe we can solve it together

Hi Juan,

this experiment GHX file is probably better to use...cleaned up canvas

Here is as far as I've gotten...'constructing' perpendicular lines from the frame insertion points...via polyline (degree-1) and mid-points

seems a bit sloppy and its not getting the job done yet...but its closer

does anyone want to take a look

Thanks

Hi Juan,

I have been working with Andy Payne of Lift Architects on some of these ideas recently. I am not sure to what degree you need your slats to remain straight (i.e. for machining purposes)...for me it was a big deal, so that I can construct something.

In any case I am posting my latest experiment which works in keeping the slats perp. but they have been approximated from a mid-point (so the slats need to be long in the z-axis in order to 'catch' the rib).

Hope this helps.

Many thanks go out to Andy Payne for helping with this Def'n

hi there,

i cant open ur latest .ghx , IO errors
Hey,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Just checked my files...they work fine. You may need the most recent WIP build of GH to run the Def'n. Try installing that and trying to open the files.

Hope this helps.
