algorithmic modeling for Rhino

3D model [ with textures ] - from google earth or similar.

Hi guys, i´m wondering if exist already any approach that allow us to extract 3d models with textures if possible in high definition high-poly [city buildings] from google earth or similar, using grasshopper & Rhino.  I already explore Cadtoearth for rhino but definitely it's not what i'm looking for.

Thanks in Advance.

well i guess a medium test with more images is you next step!.

if you want share results. These apple maps videos could be a nice environment modelling workflow.

Sure. I could share, but definitely with these kind of images [ video frames picture as 2880 × 1800] it will be very hard to obtain a high poly mesh as output result. And the main reason is because i´m replicating the process that apple guys does to build their 3d maps, but they have access to "real" high quality images ! and i´m based my images on their output 3d result, so I guess it will be hard obtain a nice quality model.

I presume the city background is there to sell the inserted design concept. Here is whats being done by developers & architects in Vancouver these days.

1. Rent a helicopter, take picture of a cloudless sunset.

2. Process 3d concept in Max, Lumion, etc.

3. Photoshop your design concept into 1.

Printed Hording

In the old days we would hire am architectural water colorist like Ron Love, or Helmut Jackoby :)

If my budget allows me to rent a helicopter I had not opened this discussion ! :) [ and i do not only use a simple image as a background, I probably would draw everything in 3D] Guys from google or Apple did a good job in their 3d maps, but they block the access, so the only way a found so far is " to hack" their maps with 3d phtogrammetry. [ I already run all the web without any other good solution].

So you want champagne on a beer budget :)

Back to your question. Honestly.... I don't see Rhino or Grasshopper is going to be any help to you. :(

Arch/Viz revolves mainly around Revit, ArchiCad, Bentley, 3dsMax and After Effects.

You really don't need the massive polygon count of a city either. You need to look at alternative presentation techniques.... good luck!
