Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys, im having trouble starting my definition and wanted some pointers on how to get a similar effect as the one shown in the image.

I attempted setting up a surface and then splitting that into sections to create the vertical slits but realized that doesn't work because I will be laser cutting this and they will all be separate pieces.

Something else I am stuck on is what panel i use to create the openings. Is it similar to a line attractor method? The problem with that is that it also creates a "Hole" in the middle and it impossible to laser cut in one piece.

Thanks for helping me talk this through guys.

It looks like a row of vertical panels that are rotated along their length according to their position to an attractor point. That is however difficult to lasercut - you can still simulate a similar effect of creating slits/smaller sections depending on the attractor points.

Hi.

Check attached. You'll need FabTools plug-in.

Hi Hyungsoo,

Thanks for the help. As a student who is trying to learn grasshopper, I appreciate how clean and well labeled your definition is. It makes it easy to follow, learn and be able to modify as needed. Once again, thanks! - Sal

Hi Sal
Apart from the technical aspects of laser cutting you pose. If you were making this proposal to an Architectural Critique committee: I have some questions!

What is the purpose of this Screen?
1. Is it a Sun shading device that only shades the structure partially?
2. Who would want to work in a corner office space, where the view is blocked by a Solid screen?
2. How do you wash the windows behind the screen?
3. How do you propose to attach the Screen to the main structure of the building?
4. Wind loads will affect the Screen, particularly in the attractor areas, how do you propose to mitigate those vibrations?

cheers!
