"It's an interesting problem, and related to a lot of other work/tools I'm trying to implement in my plug-ins. It's not a grasshopper solution, but creating a "smooth" nurbs surface is the intent of the exercise as I'm…"

Abhishek Mathur replied to Abhishek Mathur's discussion generating minimal surface in a cube
"Hi Jon The problem to me seems that rhino is grasshopper is not able to generate a surface that is derived out of more than 4 curves. Your earlier solution basically transforms a surface into a diagrid mesh which is diffrent from generating a…"

Jon Mirtschin replied to Abhishek Mathur's discussion generating minimal surface in a cube
"Well, I didn't quite get to the point of a converged solution, but here's the progress. I'll park this for the time being unless it's interest to someone. I'll be able to progress further if anyone can point me to the…"

"Is there any reference theory on this surface you are showing? This is quite an interesting thread that slipped past my attention. I thought it would be an interesting test for the minimal surface solver I've been developing into my plug-in.…"

"It would be nice to link surface evolver with the grasshopper (but also mathematica or k3dsurf)"

"Missed this thread, very interesting. Hope you keep us posted. There was a similar problem posted in another forum, and Thorolf (who is also a member here) made a video of how he solved it. Based on this I made a definition that creates a Batwing…"

Fillet in grasshopper 0.5xxx

hi allI am trying to fillet different curves together in GH. But the old grasshopper (0.5xxx) does not have a fillet command. I tried joing the two by creating an arc but when i join curves and bake them, it generates a funny interface. Please let me know if anybody has a way to fillet in the old version or a definition that does the same. The new version seems buggy and crashes in my comp everytime I use it. There is an image attached for your reference. My eventual aim is to be able to 3d…See More

Vicente Soler replied to Abhishek Mathur's discussion generating minimal surface in a cube
"Not sure if it will be useful, but I posted a while ago in the old newsgroup a definition for the marching cubes algorithm, i think it's still there. Marching cubes allows you to create an approximation of many shapes, including gyroids. This…"

Daniel Piker replied to Abhishek Mathur's discussion generating minimal surface in a cube
"To approximate a surface like this with NURBS it helps if you can find a way to divide it into 4-sided patches. In your example I think you would need to look at a larger part of the surface than that contained within the cube. I started with a…"

Abhishek Mathur replied to Abhishek Mathur's discussion generating minimal surface in a cube
"The image I posted was from a book by Eduardo Catalano 'the constant'. I am not able to emulate this in a Rhino/ grasshopper environment. The Rhino curve network seems to have difficulty in connecting more than 4 curves and this is a 6…"

Daniel Piker replied to Abhishek Mathur's discussion generating minimal surface in a cube
"No that's not GH, but I am working on a new GH definition that should be good for modeling this kind of surface. Theres a very nice approximation to the gyroid that can be found by taking the medial surface between the left-handed and…"

"Where is that image from ? It looks a bit like a piece of a gyroid, but the edges seem to be on the wrong faces of the cube. "
