Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello Everybody;

I am a very new user of Grasshopper. I want to ask two questions. I watched a movie at Youtube. They construct a pavilion. In the attachment you can find the picture of the completed pavilion.

1. I wonder how they can design this pattern. Circles are look random. But they fit to to dome exactly. How is it possible?

2. How do they project this pattern to the dome.

I think it is a very complex design but I wonder how we can do it.

Thank you for your attention

Hi Yenal,

Make sure you search this forum for circle packing or circle packing on a surface or something similar and you will get what you need.

Best,

M.

I searched but I could not find a code which can construct circle patterns on a 3D surface. Does it exit? Can you help me about it?

Like this using kangaroo...

Hi Marios,

I'm trying to create a shell structure based on this principle - how do I get this definition to work for a surface I've already created?

Hi,

If its is a single surface then there is nothing to worry about. Just go on and replace everything that has to do with the hemisphere creation in my definition with your referenced or gh created surface.

hope that's clear>?

M.

Hi Marios, sorry but I am fairly new with gh- which part do i set as my surface?

In the definition Marios shared, theres one component Srf. Disconnect all the previous components until the Srf component (these describe the hemisphere). Then right click on the Srf component and choose set one surface and select the surface you want to circle pack.

its working. But i think you first have to get a basic understanding of what each gh component does and what kangaroo actually stands for, in terms of particle-spring simulations <-- it is a physics engine and works iteratively. so it needs to be reset to start a new simulation.(switch the toggle to true and then back to false)

I would suggest to start from simpler examples.

Best,

M.
