Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Heya Guys,

Need some help, with hopefully an easy issue. . .

I've got a route layed out that defines a number of curves, I then want to be able to identify a plane, and then extrude it along all the lines. If possible, the orientation of the plane should follow the line direction in the X Y Axis. Hope this makes sense. Please ask if you don't Iunderstand - I'm not all together with my Tech Lingo.

I have attached a file showing the curve route, and then a second with an extrusion I have worked out, however, I'm having a problem extruding beyond the first curve.

Cheers,

Dave

Orient Component might be a good way to achieve this.

Thanks for the point in the right direction. Had a play around and got it working in the end. However, by using this command, another problem has arisen (shelving9), would you mind having a look at it as neither I or my tutors at Uni can get our heads around it. Would you be able to explain why, when I now move the curve point, the geometries  fall apart, rather than moving along the line?? I can achive this desired result with lines, but not extrusions along them? I have tried switching in all the rotate commands, and still the same thing happens. Any help would be great.

Cheers, Dave

Hi David,

It's a simply problem to fix. The geometry you are extruding from stays in place when you move the point along the curve, so that when you rotate it it is now significantly separated from the pivot. Once rotated away from your base curve you are then extruding it.

Solution is to introduce a Vect2Pt component Input A is the start of your line and Input B is the Point on Curve. Then plug this into your Move Component. (Repeat for each)

Where do you go to Uni? Tell your tutors they owe me a beer.

Hey Danny,

Really appreciate the help you've given me on this. I go to Bucks New University in Buckinghamshire, England. I'm in my final year of my Furniture Design and Craftsmanship Degree; this year my work has focused on how computer technologies are progressing furniture design. My dissertation focused on how computer technologies can produce successful customised products. I've been designing on Rhino for a while now, but have only come across Grasshopper in the last few weeks, really annoying as it presents itself as a method to produce items of furniture which can be customised by the individual consumer. So trying to move products across from rhino, to this, bit of a late move and gamble as my degree finishes in the next 9weeks, so have a lot to get my head around and produce in a short while.

Don't know if I can get a beer to ya, but if I make any money from these at my degree show, ill send you one for payment - you could even design it yourself haha

If your interested I can keep you updated with what im working on, if not, no worries.

thanks again for all the help - I may call on you again if I get stuck if thats ok??

Cheers again,

Dave
