Rheotomic surface / flowline relationship

Using the same tool as shown in the previous video
(http://vimeo.com/37060860)
This shows how rheotomic surfaces are made from the imaginary part of a complex function. Contours of this surface are streamlines of a potential flow.
If we take the real part of the same complex function, we get a surface whose contours are the corresponding orthogonal equipotentials.
The 2 parts can be combined to give a surface with spiralling contours, and if a linear flow is added, it makes the entire surface slope in a particular direction.

hey daniel!

great work!

I tried to download the file  but somehow i canot open the file in grasshopper. I curently have version 080066, would you have any idea why this is happening?

thanx alot!

@Taz - that's the funny thing - it's the other way round. The surfaces are generated first as complex heightfields and the flowlines come for free as the contours of those surfaces!

How are you generating your surfaces from the flowlines?
