Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dabbling in origami. Math teacher loves this one and asked me to model it. I'll post the Grasshopper definition once I've got it cleaned up some.

Hi Chris,

fantastic work. i am using this form as part of my architectural project, would love to learn how to script it in GH. have you any updates on the new definition? i am a complete novice at grasshopper so the first one that you posted was really hard for me to understand, and wasn't working properly as the center point that you used failed to load. is it just me having this issue?
thanks

The very center fold is the parameter. A change in that fold drives every fold outwards. Uses the Law of Cosines if I remember right. I rewrote the big definition as a single VB component, but I'll have to rummage around to see if I can find it. Probably will have compatibility issues due to oldness.

HOW DO YOU GET FOUR TO FOLD TOGETHER -  LIKE IN FOUR QUADRANTS

Hey Chris,

Amazing. Nice work.

Hi Chris - Dan Piker has been looking at modelling paper in his Kangaroo plugin, so worth asking him for some pointers...

Gregory,
I've found a more efficient way to approach this, and will get back to you when I have it implemented. This was a rigid version, which is different than the paper version I've been folding by hand. I plan to model the paper version, where the folds across the flat quadrilaterals are not folded, but are bending of the paper. This might take some time, since I don't quite know how to do that yet. I also will make a PDF that describes the algorithm. -Chris

Hey Chris - this is great, can you post this on the http://curvedfolding.com network? It's all about this type of geometry, and we are trying to build up a good resource of videos and code right now.

Sameer, Hajar. It is way more simple than the way I was doing it. The intersection components are not necessary. I'll post soon.
