Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

This is my 3D Metaball Component Test.

The video was recorded in realtime, with the initial version. Now it is about 2~3 times faster.

I developed my custom 3d metaball component. It is based on 3d marching cube algorithm which is somewhat difficult to explain briefly here. Basically 3d metaball shape is iso-surface of same level of energy generated from several points charged with energy.  Marching cube algorithm is needed to find that iso-surface mesh. It is also basically the same with 2D version of metaball components which is provided by grasshopper. the only difference is that it is 3D version, and in 3D you need 3D marching cube algorithm. And you can get the 3D marching cube source code from VTK(open source Visualization tool kit).
