Sounds good... probably need to pick the right image!

I ran it at 40mm/s feed rate but I think the machine doesn't reach to that speed with this kind of geometry. So yes, some patience was required. ;)

Nice idea! I'll try it when I have some time.

Now the pattern is based on a point attractor. I guess it should be possible to make it work with lines attractors. I'm also thinking of making a definition with the image sampler, to use the shadows for black values. Although I'm not sure how good that will work with sharp transitions between black & white.

wow, that is a small step over! Can you run at fast feed rates or are you just way more patient than me? :)

You might get another nice effect if you left the step over big since the cusps left by the cutter will vary as the surface undulates.

Can you generate the pattern based on line attractors? i.e. could you use line text to influence the depth of the pattern?

So I used quit a small step-over: 0,4 mm with a 6 mm ball-nose bit.

I think it should be possible to increase this with a quite a bit, as I didn't get any tear-out with an other part I tried. But then your milling lines will also be more visible.

Thanks martyn. Finish is straight of the cnc, no sanding. I'll check the amount of step-over I used.

I really like how you fade the pattern.

Is that finish straight off the CNC or have you sanded it?

Thanks Robert. :)
