Ah ok understood, yes your right about the gap because of the radial rays and it gets quite slow.

Well,

yes that is what the Isovist component is doing, somehow.

This way it also tells you not only how fare you see but which areas you see.

Further it is preciser. With the isovist component the gap gets bigger the farther away from the origin you get. If you would like to close the gap you would need to add more and more rays you send out - resulting in a longer run time.
