In the finite element analysis we've used a steel side beam to stiffen the edge. This was necessary because the shell structure is not continuous. In the scale model we've just built the wooden elements (4 layers, 3mm each, MDF; all joints allow rotations). So there is some deflection when you apply a load on top of the structure. But overall it's still reasonably rigid.

Very nice - was there much deflection after construction?
