With technological developments, tools once limited to not creative areas begin to be part of the everyday life of students in University Architecture Laboratories and change its design processes. The architecture design methods are changing rapidly with the introduction of CAD-CAM software’s. In recent years, new software’s have been available for 3D representation and digital fabrication, which have allowed creating new ways of interacting with the computer and architecture. Contemporary architecture in its various scales, seeks greater flexibility, adaptability and interactivity taking into account both the means and goals of kinetic systems. Thus, it is essential to the creative industry players to acquire new knowledge about the latest technological innovations and how they can solve some of the problems and challenges of today’s society.
The workshop will explore the use of Grasshopper, Firefly and Arduino as creative and technical tools in all the design process, to simulation and prototype 3D interactive architecture solutions.
The theoretical and practical workshop (64 hours) taught in English and Portuguese, will be composed of two modules: (1) LS_01: Firefly +Grasshopper + Arduino and Scale Model Fabrication; (2) LS_02: Design Studio – Discursive Wall.
This workshop is intended for students and professionals from different areas of knowledge, (architecture, design, fine arts, engineering, music and programming) who are interested in the process of design: from ideation to prototyping. The participants will generate scale models.
Registration is limited to 20 participants with or without software knowledge. Participants will work individually and in group. Participants must take their own laptops to the workshop. Registrants should complete the form by 28 February 2012. Once registered, you will receive an email confirming your acceptance.

surface which are fully inside it(each cell's area should be 100% inside surface).
Idea how to do this:
Use Surface|Curve to cut the grid of cells to the surface --->
---> Area to get centroids of those cells --->
---> Dispatch using as pattern distances of cells' centroids from polyline to have in one of list those that are fully within the surface --->
---> Dispatch using as pattern distances of cells' centroids from curves (that defy holes) to have in one of list those that are fully within the surface
Problem:
Cannot use Area to extract centroids. Ironically, when I click on the Area button is shows me centroids of all of cells that are fully inside surface but button is red so I cannot progress.
I tried using Split Surface too (instead of Surface|Curve) but it crashed my PC, even after flattening input data.
I'm a newbie and looked for answer but did not manage to find topic that would relate to my problem. Maybe I formulate my questions in wrong way.

The PC actually stops working because after a few seconds the simulation starts the fan inside the PC all of a sudden stops and for the next 5-10 mins I cannot do anything, even alt+ctrl+canc. After I wait for that time i get the followig error:

The thing is that if I raise the -aa parameter from 0.05 to 0.1 all works fine..

I am curious if Kangaroo and other Apps are following the same performance-rule (single thread) like Rhino/ G.H? And what would be the key-feature to increase the power of Rhino/GH/Kangaroo in order to process the case I mentioned before (completely retractable roof)?
- Which level of CPU? Or constraint of CPU over clocking when necessary and capacity of RAM)
- How fine tuning my PC for best performance? (Parallel computing, c-flex…)
- is GPU a matter? (E.g. in Animation standard: Nvidia CUDA Quadro 4000+)
Or probably just a suggestion of workstation ;-)

dy for a wall where we want to analyze its openings. I made a parametric wall that then get's analyzed with different geometries and the idea was just to leave it there for the weekend as it morphed through different iterations. However, after successfully running a test simulation on my pc (just with one iteration), it fails to run the same test on the workplace computer. Any help would be greatly apprecated! So while working, I am first getting this error message:

I am using 0.8.0066 version (yes, I know I need to update to the newest one, but some components I have do not work with 0.9+ version).
Any help with this? Or do I simply need more RAM?

It might sound strange, but is there a way I can avoid buying new PC or RAM memory?
Maybe by deleting the Panels and Param Viewers?I might be wrong, but I think the error starts when you cross over particular part of canvas (or definition to be precise) where there are a lots of Param Viewers.
