The most common plastic materials used as agricultural films are the low density polyethylene (LDPE, with a density less than 0.93 kg m−3), the copolymer of ethylene and vinyl-acetate (EVA)
Also here you can find the characteristics of the flexible materials for greenhouse covers (adapted from CPA, 1992 and Tesi, 2001) as much as i get.
UV-PE Film ( UV-PE~ polyethylene Long life or UV)
Thickness (mm) = 0.18
Direct PAR transmissivity (%) = 90
Diffuse PAR transmissivity (%)= 86
Long-wave IR transmissivity (%)= 65
EVA Film ( EVA~Ethylene vinyl-acetate copolymer)
Thickness (mm) = 0.18
Direct PAR transmissivity (%) = 90
Diffuse PAR transmissivity (%)= 76
Long-wave IR transmissivity (%)= 27
and here you will find the global heat transfer coefficient’ (K in W m−2 °C−1) for the above greenhouse covering materials, measured under normalized conditions (temperatures: exterior: −10°C, interior: +20°C, wind: 4 m s−1). (Source: Nisen and Deltour, 1986.)
Cover Clear sky Overcast Sky
Single PE 8.8-9.0 7.1- 7.2
Single EVA 7.8 6.6
Note : the PAR radiation (photosynthetically active or photoactive radiation and its the amounts to 45–50% of the global radiation; Berninger, 1989)
The name PAR is used to designate the radiation with wavelengths useful for plant photosynthesis. It is accepted that the PAR radiation ranges from 400 to 700 nm (McCree, 1972), although some authors consider the PAR from 350 to 850 nm.
The composition of the radiation changes with time, as a function of the Sun’s elevation and the cloudiness. When the Sun is low over the horizon, the short wavelengths are reduced (less UV and more red). The clouds reduce the amount of energy, greatly decreasing the NIR.
The PAR proportion in relation to the global radiation increases with scattering (diffusion). It is lower with clear sky and in the summer (45–48%).

Other than that:
1. On this type of structures equal members (although achievable) is not a consideration unless you use some type of MERO system and you have a zillion members in mind (balls must being drilled on a per ball basis, mind). But you are not after a MERO. Or ... you have "fixed" panels in mind that "fit" in your facets and make the envelope?? (but this is more theoretical than anything ... ).
2. Individually picking items in collections (your nodes for instance) although the essence of engineering ... is not achievable in GH unless you use code (I could easily provide a small demo on that matter using C# - it could change your perception on things rather drastically).
3: Academic means ... er ... academic, he he: something NOT related with a real-life project meaning that the level of detail and the whole approach is ... er ... hmm ... "indicative". Academic also means: non-profitable (in the strict sense).
Suggestions:
A. This type of stuff is 50% about designing a proper node. Provide some detailed sketches on that matter (BTW: "mobile" nodes ???). The more "accurate" they are the better. Using wood makes the structure "heavy" to the eye (and is BAD: killing trees for doing things?? No good at all - unless is fully synthetic [kitsch], that is).
B. The remaining 49.99% is the envelope: Provide ... blah, blah. Note: if the envelope "panels" are NOT engulfed in the facets (say: some planar glazing system and the likes) then the nodes MUST provide means to support the envelope as well (or at least the Primary support system). By Primary I mean "big" triangular frames that support a "grid" of smaller ones that host glass, poly carbonate sheets or some other stuff.
C: For a vast variety of reasons going from "abstract" to something "realistic" on that type of structures requires coding. Are you familiar with such freaky things? (C# for instance) OR do you have issues using a "component" that is made that way? (see 2).

d as a mask). By inputting the # of grid points in the Y direction, it calculates # of grid points in the X direction, trying to create as close as possible a square grid division.
Hovering over the surfaces are 2 curves. By calculating the distance between the curves' points and grid points, an attractor pattern is created.
The source object is scaled based on the attractor curves, flipped upside down and adapted to the surface normal. Finally a solid difference is applied resulting in the indented surface pattern.
(Also, there is some more detailed input regarding object size, rotation and location.)
While running this on a machine with enough processing power to fly me to Mars, Grasshopper still becomes really slow and unresponsive ever since I've added the sDiff component. The same goes for utilizing the Trim component instead of the sDiff (I assume they do the same in this scenario?).
Am I missing something here? Is it somehow calculating large amounts of unnecessary data? Am I doing things overly-complex?
Attached the Rhino & Grasshopper files. Please play with the "# Objects in Y direction" slider, to (hopefully) experience what I mean. I am looking at a preferred # Object in the Y direction upwards of 50 at least. Changing the "3D Object" BRep to something else (in the hidden layers) might also influence performance.
So, what do you guys think?…

ace and am trying to wrap it to a skin ('map to surface'), but I found the edges at both side could not be connected properly because the 2D surface was divided into diamonds and triangulates.
When I mapped the 2D surface to a skin, the seam was solid. So is there any way that i can make the seam as same as the other part of the skin?
2. To further play with the pattern, i tried to subdivide some portion of the diamonds by using 'Quadsub' to make some of the diamond 50% smaller.
I intent to have some point attractors () to control the random reduce, so that I have have relatively more big openings in some specific areas (depends on how much is the 'Jitter' value? (Shuffling strength))
Please see the attached 3dm and gh files
THANKS in advance for any help!!

For my project I want to make a sphere or spherical-like shape and pack it with circles of varying sizes. The circles all have to touch each other and thus on a point where three circles 'sort of' meet, there can only be three circles. This is shown in the second picture I have attached, a 2D circle packing made by Daniel Piker. So basically what I want to achieve is having the second picture projected on a 3d surface, that I can also edit. Also I would like to be able to change the size and amount of the circles that populate the surface. This means that I would be able to say 'there should be 30 circles with a radius of 2, 40 circles with a radius of 3 and 50 circles with a radius of 4, put them on this particular shape'.
As I've just started the project I haven't done so much research yet. What I have found is for example this Kangaroo definition of circle packing in 2D: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/kangaroo/forum/topics/circle-packing-definition?xg_source=activity
It is very beautiful and does exactly what I want to achieve, except that it is in two dimensions. I also have to say that I feel pretty confident working with both Grasshopper and Rhino, but not really with Kangaroo. I have used it a few times but not extensively.
So what I'm wondering is, how could I best approach this project? I looked into the concept of 'circle packing' and I noticed that it can be approached very mathematically. As I am an architecture student I don't know much about the math behind the geometry (although I do think it is very interesting) and thus I'm wondering if I will be able to achieve what I want to achieve. Also, do you think I could best approach the project in Kangaroo and do you think it is realistic for me to think I could finish the project? I'm just trying to see if I'm not going to try to tackle a problem that is very difficult to solve even for skilled mathematicans or something. Sorry for the long and perhaps vague read, but I would be very happy with any sort of input you might have on my problem!
Thanks in advance!

from each other (base curve and subtractive curve)
The goal is to get something like subtractive colormixing
-> so the the base curve is something like a white paper
-> if i add a color to it the paper gets darker
it works - but the problem is - if I put the slider of the subtractive color/curve to for example 100 and the base curve is at 50 it get minus values --> whereas the minum in total should be "100 - the numbers of the subtractive curve"
I know it may be a bit confusing - but it really should be just a little trick - so to make it a bit more clear i add screenshots:
As you can see - on top I have a list with 50 as the base curve - from that I subtract the list on the left -> so I get minus number in the list on the right -> and you can see on the rhino window on the right - that the curve is below zero - whereas it should exactly match the upper curve in that situation
to give you a understanding what i want it to look like in reality in that case - I give you another screenshot:
So that is what it should look like - so for example -> If it is 50-94.68 -> value on the right list should hit a minumum at 5.32 (100-94.68)
--> so 100-value in left list should be minumum in right list
I hope i could make it a bit understandable at least - and I really hope that you could help me
Thank you so much in advance
and I hope to hear from you soon
Tom =)

oling consumption in those months i identified as winter/summer. I defined -50 oC and100 oC for such months. But it was a mistake. Just after i defined all the temperatures the same for winter/summer i get the desired temperatures.
2. Equipment/Lighting schedules: I was mixing the occupancy/lighting schedules (when they are ON) with the loads themselves. I suppose i get mislead with one of your previous examples. I think i'm getting right now.
So this is with regard the garbage (attached the file with the fixes if you don't mind to check).
Now the questions:
a. HB_setEPZoneThresholds: I'm defining there Cooling/Heating Det point and Setbacks. I don't see them in the IDF. If i define HeatingCoolingSetpoint schedules in the HB_setEPZoneSchedules these definitions are not written in the IDF?
b. HB_setEPNatVent: Im defining min/max indoor/outdoor temperatures. But i also don't see where in the IDF they are registered.
c. I know you are using DualIdealSystem for the dafault HVAC. There is a way of not calculating cooling for winter months? I'm not defining well this question, but in this example i'm getting cooling loads bigger than heating for winter. Can't be (!!). In the worst case you open windows but don't cool. My faculty building shifts the HVAC from cooling to heating at determined dates in the year. When not needed you don't switch them on. I hope you understand the meaning of the question and find the logic in it. The way i define Ideal Systems allows me to do that, but i can't find how to do that in HB components.
Hope this makes any sense for you.
Thanks for your help.
