onsidered period.
Even if the end of July for the mediterranean climate is not the best period to perform an adaptive comfort analysis (it's just a pretest to define a LB model) I want to refine the Adaptive comfort Chart (AC) by changing the external air temperature data imported from the .epw file with that of monitored data as reported here below:
Where the monitored ext air temperature are in this form (green panel below):
I have used the comfortPar component to set the following parameters:
Adaptive chart as defined by EN 15251
90% of occupants comfortable
the prevailing outdoor temperature from a weighted running mean of the last week
fully conditioned space (even if it is not properly in line with AC as already discussed)
The question is this: the AC component could correctly apply the code below if there is only a list of external temperature data for a restricted period (without indication about the limits of this period) and not for an entire year?
else: #Calculate a running mean temperature. alpha = 0.8 divisor = 1 + alpha + math.pow(alpha,2) + math.pow(alpha,3) + math.pow(alpha,4) + math.pow(alpha,5) dividend = (sum(_prevailingOutdoorTemp[-24:-1] + [_prevailingOutdoorTemp[-1]])/24) + (alpha*(sum(_prevailingOutdoorTemp[-48:-24])/24)) + (math.pow(alpha,2)*(sum(_prevailingOutdoorTemp[-72:-48])/24)) + (math.pow(alpha,3)*(sum(_prevailingOutdoorTemp[-96:-72])/24)) + (math.pow(alpha,4)*(sum(_prevailingOutdoorTemp[-120:-96])/24)) + (math.pow(alpha,5)*(sum(_prevailingOutdoorTemp[-144:-120])/24)) startingTemp = dividend/divisor if startingTemp < 10: coldTimes.append(0) outdoorTemp = _prevailingOutdoorTemp[7:] startingMean = sum(outdoorTemp[:24])/24 dailyRunMeans = [startingTemp] dailyMeans = [startingMean] prevailTemp.extend(duplicateData([startingTemp], 24)) startHour = 24

requires four weather data inputs: air temperature (_dryBulbTemperature), relative humidity (relativeHumidity_), wind speed at 1.1 meters from the ground (windSpeed_) and mean radiant temperature (meanRadiantTemperature_).You can add values to the first three inputs from the Ladybug "Import Epw" component. For the last (meanRadiantTemperature_), you can add it from Ladybug's "Outdoor Solar Adjusted Temperature Calculator" component, or let "Thermal Comfort Index" component to calculate it. Both use different methods to calculate the final values.
I attached an example file below with second option. For more precise calculations you can use Honeybee and Chris' microclimate maps.An icing on the cake for the end: one of Ladybug developers yesterday released a set of Ladybug components for modelling in ENVI-met application. ENVI-met is cutting-edge microclimate software, which can be downloaded for free. It opens a number of advanced new analysis in outdoor domain, which couldn't have been done with the current Ladybug+Honeybee tools. So you can perform the simulation in ENVI-met 4 free software, and then add mean radiant temperature values from ENVI-met simulation to "Thermal Comfort Indices" component. Here is an example file.If you would like to go with the last approach, then the best would be to post a question about it in this topic.
1) You can make a polygonized tree.I haven't subtracted the trunk from the crown, but I guess it makes sense that it can be done.2) In most solar related simulations, a default albedo value of 0.2 is used. This corresponds to average albedo value taken from materials surrounding the urban or countryside location (concrete, grass, gravel, sand, asphalt...). However the presence of snow can significantly magnify the average albedo value several times. "Sunpath shading" components albedo_ input has an ability to calculate albedo due to presence of snow, if nothing is added to it (to albedo_ input). As you are performing the analysis of PET in a horizontal plane, it will not affect your calculations.3) Most thermal comfort indices will require performing analysis at 1.1 meters above the ground. This is considered to be height of standing person's gravity center. The same goes for PET index. So you are correct: you should place the analysis grid at 1.1 meters above the ground before adding it to the "Sunpath Shading" component. It is worth mentioning that "Thermal Comfort Indices" component used in this topic's PET_on_Grid2.gh and PET_on_Grid3.gh files is from last year, and much slower than the newest one (VER 0.0.64 MAR 18 2017) used in the example attached below. Just a remainder if you have been using older version of this component.Let me know if I misunderstood some of your questions, or if I missed to answer some of them.
EDIT: sorry for posting a double reply. When I posted it the first time, I only got links visible, with no text. Something has been wrong with grasshopper ning forum for the last couple of months.…
e a "game changer" regarding lighting simulations and analysis. To harness the power of Grasshopper, the flexibility of Rhino in a lighting specific application is, I believe, already the future.
Because of the above I am a big proponent of Honeybee for the professional environment, but I feel that there are still a few shortcomings... from what I have tried.
1. It should be "photometrically" more comprehensive, not just for illuminance, luminance and energy (W.h). Other quantities are of great importance, namely intensity and flux.
2. Producing documentation is a big advantage (if not the main advantage) of dedicated packages such as Dialux or AGI32, it would be nice to see it as a strong feature in Honeybee as well.
3. Support for Eulumdat would be a nice feature.
4. There is a performance issue with multiple sources as you mentioned. I have tried a "simple" analysis with 120 sources and it takes, indeed, a substantial amount of time to produce the result. Don't know where the bottleneck is, perhaps not Honeybee's to blame, but it is a hindrance in using the software for complex simulations.
5. Material/surface design would benefit from more options.
Finally, do you have a roadmap of sorts and what can the users expect from Honeybee electic lighting in 2017?
Have a great year!! All the best.

ne) graphs, makes a classic VV (vertex to vertex connectivity) Adjacency Matrix based on what Sandbox has to say (the Matrix is not actually required if someone wants to stay 100% in the GH world) and then ...er ... hmm ... attempts to find closed circuits as Microsoft suggests (forgot/lost the link but who cares? not me anyway [see VS stuff attached]).
It's quite faulty (like Windows) ... but is an indication on some things. Try to understand the recursion (critical in most AEC stuff). Recursion means that Matteo calls Matteo who calls Matteo ... until Matteo calls Maria and the loop is over. Notify if you need other recursion C# examples on other things (dozens available).
The working(?) chopped (minus sensitive stuff) real thing next week: just realized that this w/e there's the Malaysian MotoGP (Valentino lost the championship) AND a critical Formula 1 race in Mexico (forza Lewis).
Attached as well the original VS stuff from Microsoft (requires VS 2017)…
y anyway ;))
Since 2014 i begun to get back into the construction biz for some dozen main reasons, one of them being the highly increased availability of this kind of software "power", and robotics.
first project ended by 1stQ 2015 was focused on the development of a parametric block for construction. (almost sure the first parametric product designed in Uruguay, and probably one of the few first of this kind globally...)
Far from being a complicated model. In fact the standard model is extremely simple, key thing is that is fully parametric...
dimensions, materials, textures, colors... and so on
second key thing is that the main common component of the blocks (an EPS core) is robotically machined...
the blocks are the base of a construction system (oriented mainly - though not restricted only - to residential buildings) that
- is based on digital models, tendentially to be used in parametric models of buidings
- lab tested to prove to be 1.5 times as compression resistant than traditional bricks and blocks. (autoportability up to two stories buildings)
- has recently proved (due to size) to be 300% more efficient than the classic and 200% more efficient than steel frame in (our country official figures)

- and it's aimed to be mass produced and handled by robots...
this project ended on 1H 2016
and i filed 4 patents in the process.
3 of them of mechanical devices designed as extensions for a cnc machine i own
and the fourth (
the patent related specifically with the blocks ) included a dozen of innovations (believe me...i have almost 15 yrs in the biz, and are coool stuff...)
along the project I've been working with inventor, even knowing in advance it will lack the kind of features I wanted to program many things... (lisp, VB, etc.... all same species of -prehistoric - animals) to leverage the tool to the sky - and far beyond... -
but was an alternative valid by that time because it allows the implementation of some form of parametric models, had a local representative and some supposedly skilled guys in the neibourhood....
but life is hard... and none of the latter two rendered me any significant help
so I had to take the tour myself...
- mind i never regret to do things that others cant -
and finish what i start
this one was a great project for many figures... and ended with more results than the ones commited to accomplish...
... some more history here ....
then because of a customer who brought a ZHA project ! to quote..., I crossed with rhino, and then met GH again to notice to my great joy and pleasure, in what kind of animal it had developed...
since money talks I'm investing hard on getting up to the expectations, and beyond as i usually do...
and thats how we met..
2017-2018 it's the time frame to build two robots. first one is a prototype to handle the k-nano blocks in the production process, delivery AND at the construction site ( a "smart crane" we nicknamed...)
the other one is the first prototype of robot to assist in the fabrication (smart blocker we called it to be creative ! ;))
then by 2018-2019 i'll be making a "kinda contour crafter" machine to complete the pie :) (you'll be interested on this..)
i guess you already know what all this has to do with GH...
i already have all the components i can imagine to do almost all i ever wanted to do in relation to this set of projects
but in almost a single tool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can design, animate, render, optimize, simulate and even robotic simulate..
so, i have to ask...
is there a chance you might be interested in helping us in some projects we are starting on march and june 2017 (8 and no more than 18 months of duration respectively) ?
sent you a friend request, for the case you might be interested to continue by e-mail...
in any case many thanks for your help and inspiration !
best regards !
long happy marriage, and large figures bank account !
