Theme
Theme of CANactions 2009 is emergent design techniques.
This theme could include following architectural branches as Digital design, sustainable architecture and other sectors, which by the participants’ opinions, could be EMERGENT.???
Any architectural projects made earlier of specially for the CANactions’09 are allowed for submission.
Presentation
All the projects will be submitted in two phases:
Phase 1 – selection of 10-15 participants of CANactions.
Project has to be sent by e-mail to: (__) in PDF (not less then 300 dpi, not more then 10 Mb).
Phase 2 –the CANactions participants prepare 15-20 min presentation of their projects (screen projector, microphone) and materials for the exhibition in House of Architect, Kyiv. The project has to be presented by author. -> exhibition is the first architecture biennale
Presentation requirements: file should be composed in PDF format on A0 sheets, placed horizontal (not more then 1 sheets). This file should contain sufficient amount of the presentation graphic material, including text explanation up to 300 words.
The raster images should have printing definition not less then 300 dpi. It’s recommended to avoid solid black fillings, because the projects will be printed on ink-jet printer.
The presentation requirements could be changed after phase 1 results.
The presentation materials should be made in Ukrainian (or Russian) and English. Verbal part can be presented in any language.

errain. It has been fixed now (the newest "Terrain Generator" component is v0.0.2 JUN 09 2017). This is the result of the AW3D30 source_ and 250 radius_ inputs with performed elevation analysis with "Terrain Analysis" component:
The LocationGrabber03_Gismo6.gh file you sent me, ran without problems. Here is the result that I get:
Instead of Gismo "Terrain Generator" component, I used Ladybug "Terrain Generator" component. Not because the first one did not work, it did, both for SRTMGL1 and AW3D30 source_ inputs. But because in case you are looking for a terrain in large cities, the Ladybug "Terrain Generator" will in cases of large USA cities, and as we can see, Paris (so maybe large European cities as well too?) produce much more precise results. You can always try yourself,
and check which of the mentioned sources and two components produces the best terrain.
I made a few modifications to your .gh file, mainly adding the data to the requiredKeys_ input of "OSM shapes" component. We mentioned this previously. The "OSM shapes" component would still work even without these but if the radius_ is large or if there are a lot of things tagged in that location, then the number of keys may exceed the shapefiles' maximum, which could result in some keys not even being included in the "keys" output of the "OSM shapes" component. This is why it is recommended to always add specific keys to the requiredKeys_ input.
I attached the modified .gh file you sent me below, from which the upper screenshot comes from.
The "invalid shapes" warning happens due to a bug in the MapWinGIS. The authors couldn't fix it. What happens is that the openstreetmap file format is converted to a shapefile format. Sometimes this conversion fails. Luckily the problem is easily solvable by running the conversion again: by turning the "OSM shapes" component off, and then on again (runIt_ to "False" and then to "True").
If you are constantly getting this warning, then it can be that something is wrong with your system.In April, you solved your own issue with MapWinGIS folder and osmconf.ini file permissions.Maybe you can check once again if the permissions are still the ones you reported back in April?And maybe you can try to set the same permissions to the "c:\gismo" folder, as well as each of its subfolders ("c:\gismo\osm_files", "c:\gismo\terrain_files"...).
Also try setting the same permissions to this folder:
"c:/gismo/osm_files/3_Rue_de_Bretonvilliers_Paris_48.850763_2.35891_radius=0.13KM"
It's the folder where your openstreetmap and shapefiles are located for the location_: "3_Rue_de_Bretonvilliers_Paris, lat:48.850763, lon:2.35891, radius_:125".…

The website has benchmarks, for your reference. You can find them under the 'Pachyderm' drop down menu, under 'Benchmarks'.
Your model may well require millions of rays to be accurate. It sounds like a very large space. I'm sorry if that is an unpleasant answer. Sometimes it does help to have a computer with more cores to help with this. I have gotten up to 90% processor usage on a 12 core machine before.

hat differ in shapes, sizes and height the facade would be a mess. Some spaces need some light while other can't have any. I would like to have full freedom of creation inside the building, to make it as functional as possible. Thats why i decided the parametric "skin" solution would be best. Since the location has industrial past (factories made of brick) i decided that brick would give interesting result.
I tried creating the definition on my own but since i lack skill in GH i got some problems (especially multiplication of bricks and the diffrence between each "level" (half a brick on y axis) caused problems for me.
I post my simple sketch explaining the idea of definition i would like to create (sorry about quality):
1 - Brep - I would like to use 25x12x6cm (classic brick) but as well experiment with diffrent shapes - like the one on the right with hole inside - that would give more light. Thats why i think the best solution would be using brep for this definition.
2- Multiplication - biggest problem for me - I don't know how tall the wall would be, what will be the final shape of Brep (brick) and that's why i would like to manipulate this with sliders as well. All the walls are flat (maybe it would be easier to use surface?). As i managed to multiply the bricks easy way i don't know how to gain control over height of the wall - for example that it is 30 bricks high, but has each second row moved on x axis by the distance of 1/2 brick. I tried using Series but with no success. Could you help me with that please?
3 - Rotation - i would like to use image sampler for that so i can "paint" where i want more sun and where i dont need it at all (black and white). The rotation has to be limited to 180 degrees as well. Obviously i didn't get here yet, but i never used image sampler so if you could give me some advice how to use component and how to create such images i would be really grateful.
4 - More of a concept thing - since the connection angles differ from 90 degrees i will have to figure out how to connect the parts of the wall at sides ;).
I would like to ask you for help with the defintion, since i am totally stuck at step 2. I post what i came up with so far. Thank you for your time and help!

requires four weather data inputs: air temperature (_dryBulbTemperature), relative humidity (relativeHumidity_), wind speed at 1.1 meters from the ground (windSpeed_) and mean radiant temperature (meanRadiantTemperature_).You can add values to the first three inputs from the Ladybug "Import Epw" component. For the last (meanRadiantTemperature_), you can add it from Ladybug's "Outdoor Solar Adjusted Temperature Calculator" component, or let "Thermal Comfort Index" component to calculate it. Both use different methods to calculate the final values.
I attached an example file below with second option.For more precise calculations you can use Honeybee and Chris' microclimate maps.An icing on the cake for the end: one of Ladybug developers yesterday released a set of Ladybug components for modelling in ENVI-met application. ENVI-met is cutting-edge microclimate software, which can be downloaded for free. It opens a number of advanced new analysis in outdoor domain, which couldn't have been done with the current Ladybug+Honeybee tools. So you can perform the simulation in ENVI-met 4 free software, and then add mean radiant temperature values from ENVI-met simulation to "Thermal Comfort Indices" component. Here is an example file.If you would like to go with the last approach, then the best would be to post a question about it in this topic.
1) You can make a polygonized tree.I haven't subtracted the trunk from the crown, but I guess it makes sense that it can be done.2) In most solar related simulations, a default albedo value of 0.2 is used. This corresponds to average albedo value taken from materials surrounding the urban or countryside location (concrete, grass, gravel, sand, asphalt...). However the presence of snow can significantly magnify the average albedo value several times. "Sunpath shading" components albedo_ input has an ability to calculate albedo due to presence of snow, if nothing is added to it (to albedo_ input). As you are performing the analysis of PET in a horizontal plane, it will not affect your calculations.3) Most thermal comfort indices will require performing analysis at 1.1 meters above the ground. This is considered to be height of standing person's gravity center.The same goes for PET index. So you are correct: you should place the analysis grid at 1.1 meters above the ground before adding it to the "Sunpath Shading" component.It is worth mentioning that "Thermal Comfort Indices" component used in this topic's PET_on_Grid2.gh and PET_on_Grid3.gh files is from last year, and much slower than the newest one (VER 0.0.64 MAR 18 2017) used in the example attached below. Just a remainder if you have been using older version of this component.Let me know if I misunderstood some of your questions, or if I missed to answer some of them.

now we have several problems:
1. how can i map a hexgrid on a curved surface?
2. how can i adapt the grid to the dimensions of the surface (no overlap, no gaps to the bound)?

: to create the curved sticks, we use points on a line and we move some of them and then we want to connect the right points via interpolated curve to create each curved stick. now the problem is that the points have to been filtered in the right way. we know that we have to filter each list of points to the index values of the points. the number of index values is the number of hexgrid rows, so there are a lot and we can't use a list item for each one. it could be hundreds.
is there any opportunity to sort a list after the index values (first every index=0, then index=1, ...n)?
or is there any component which does a group of operations for n-times (n is the flexible number of index values) ?
4. how can i control the length and bend of the sticks via the brightnessvalues of a picture?

In einem hexagonalen Raster soll sich senkrecht zu Oberfläche ein Stab im Mittelpunkt jedes Sechsecks befinden. Dieser soll sich ab einem gewissen (festgelegten) Punkt Richtung Boden biegen. Zusätzlich wird die Länge des Stabes zum Beispiel durch die Information eines Bildes gesteuert, so dass auch die Biegung, je nach Länge, geregelt werden muss.
Wir haben ein Hexagonales Grid (HexGrid) erzeugt und in jeden Mittelpunkt eine Linie senkrecht zum Grid erzeugt, aus der wir uns Punkte mit CurvePoint ausgeben lassen. Der letzte ist verschoben, um eine Biegung zu simulieren. Um die Punkte zu einer interpolierten Kurve zu verbinden, müssen sie nach dem Index sortiert werden. Gibt es eine andere Möglichkeit, als jeden einzelnen Indexwert über ein ListItem herauszufiltern (Da die Rasterung flexibel einstellbar sein soll, entstehen n Indexwerte)? Oder kann man eine Liste nach den Indexwerten, also nicht nach den Punkten, sortieren?
Und wie kann man über Bildhelligkeitswerte die Länge der Stäbe und damit auch die Biegung steuern (ein kurzer Stab biegt sich weniger als ein langer Stab)?
Gibt es die Möglichkeit ein hexagonales Raster auf eine gekrümmte Fläche zu mappen?
Und wie passt man ein solches Raster (HexGrid) in eine Fläche mit definierten Maßen ein, ohne dass das Raster an den Rändern übersteht oder die Fläche nicht vollkommen ausfüllt?

ou will see all of the available components on a ribbon at once so there is no need to keep clicking drop down menus.
It's all about discoverability with GH. What if you're a beginner and don't know about the Create Facility (dbl click canvas) how can you find Extr?
Even if you hover over every component or use the drop down lists you will not see the name Extr appear anywhere.
Sure it makes sense that Extr is short for Extrude but it's also the Nick Name of Extrude to Point component
So you can easily miss the fact that one has a Distance Input verses a Point Input.
I think I made the move to Icons around about the move from version 0.5 to 0.6, possibly before. I initially thought that I would go back to text because I loved the mono chromatic look of the text but I soon realised that Icons were the way forward. The greatest benefit is speed. You don't need to digest and decipher every component (which is written 90 degrees to the norm).
I'm not saying you should move to Icons forthwith but at least consider that once you have a better knowledge and understanding of GH, Icons will set you free.
My top ten tips that I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to better themselves with GH.
1) Turn on Draw Icons
2) Turn on Draw Fancy Wires
3) Turn on Obscure Components
4) Use the Create Facility like a Command Line eg "Slider=-1<0.75<2" or "Shiftlist=-1"
5) Use Component Aliases to customise your use of the Create Facility eg giving the Point XYZ component an alias of XYZ will bring it up as the first option on the Create Facility as opposed to the other possibilities.
6) Try to answer other people's questions even if it's not relevant to your own area. By looking into solving a problem outside of your comfort zone and then posting your results it is very rewarding but it also lets you see the other approaches that get posted in a new light.
7) Take the time to understand Data/Path structures.
8) Buy a second monitor - There is nothing that can compare to real estate when working in Grasshopper.
9) Read Rajaa Issa's Essential Mathematics
10) Pick a panel in a tab on the ribbon and get to know every component inside and out and then move on. Start with the Sets Tab > List Panel…

These components are still in the beta-testing stage. Some of the limitations of the components are:
1. Only Type C photometry IES files are supported at present.
2. Rhino is likely to get sluggish if there are too many luminaires (i.e. light fixtures) present in a scene.
3. Due to the spectral limitations of the ray-tracing software (RADIANCE), simulations involving color mixing might not be physically realizable.
Additional details about photometric and spectral calculations are probably an overkill for this forum. However, I'd be glad to answer any related questions. Please report any bugs or request new features either on this forum or on Github.
