2015. You will have the opportunity to play with an experimental large scale distributed framework we have been busy with over the last few months called 'Stampede'. You will get knowledge on MDO and parametric design, meet some of the developers of the framework, hands-on experience and investigate the gained results in an experimental atmosphere. You will be working with Rhino and Grasshopper during the workshop.
PROGRAMME
The workshop will start with an introduction on Stampede and the different technologies involved, such as cloud computing, parametric modelling and multi-disciplinary design optimisation. After the presentations, we will discuss an example use case, get to work with and gain some hands-on experience by applying your newly gained knowledge to design your own multi-disciplinary design optimisation model and investigate its behaviour.
REGISTRATION
Excited? The IASS conference organisation lowered the price of the two-day workshop from € 250,- to € 150,-. You can register here via the IASS2015 website. The workshop is also available for people who did not register for the IASS2015 Symposium. There is also a rumour around that if you e-mail White Lioness that you can get a code for a even bigger discount.
MORE INFORMATION
Keep an eye on the Stampede website if you want to keep up to date with the latest developments about the workshop. Updated information about Stampede and the workshop will be regularly posted.

ngoing Co-de-iT research called “inFORMed matter“.
The “inFORMed matter” research project focuses on the exploration of additive fabrication processes, aiming to inform as in to produce form through the morphogenetic properties and capacities of matter by embedding further information structures during the fabrication process itself.
The goal is to go beyond the current state of prototyping, according to which the physical prototype should be as close as possible a clone of its digital counterpart, thus making fabrication a purely replicational phase. Instead, by coding and embedding additional levels of information aimed at mapping and defining material features and behaviors as well as different deployment patterns from which physical and aesthetic properties arise, the production and digital fabrication phase becomes an integral part of the design process.
The workshop it’s focused about the exploration and development of the whole process of design and digital manufacturing through additive processes of ceramic mixture materials.
[.] Workshop topics:
- Anticipate material behavior through digital simulation: test and apply different tool-based conditions and parameters (extrusion direction angle, speed of extrusion, variable layer thickness, etc … ) and evaluate the consequent material behavior in order to get useful feedback for the next iteration of the digital model. The aim is to understand how to embed material properties as code/information during the digital design phase, fine tuning it towards the desired effect-outcome. - Seamless design-to-machine pipeline: shorten the information pipeline from the design process to the constructor machine. This is achieved by acting on both factors: informing directly the machines by generating the necessary code in the design tool and build the design process around the capacities of the machines involved. - Embed morphogenetic material properties as design factors: understand and manage such properties, behaviors and their potential morphological outcomes for different materials, from clay to biologic matter, in order to map and use them as an atlas of expressive possibilities and performances of the material. - Understand constraints and opportunities determined by the chosen constructor agent/machine: learn to use and manage different machines to handle the extrusion tool for additive processes and learn to evaluate and exploit the influence, constraints and given opportunities provided by different machines and movement technologies.
During the workshop will be used as tools for handling the special ceramic extruder, a customized 3D printer, type delta, and a 6-axis Comau Robot NJ 60.
The final output will be then the result of influence, cooperation and conflict of these aspects upon, with and onto one another. Only successfully combining computational simulation, material properties and capacities and machine constraints and opportunities we can effectively evaluate and push further the design process potential and foster design and fabrication skills and sensibilities that will form the basis of a more comprehensive awareness in regard to the relations between computation and material aspects.

I understand.
I think honeybee and ladybug together are already a great design tool. I didn't realize the whole story with CFD and the various ways you have tried. Have a lot of respect for your project and your colleagues that are working on this, and I hope you guys get enough credit just going for it considering just how ambitious your project is. and open-source equivalence of at least 7 percent equity share too :) as in per owners. if you guys can offer 1 year cliff and 4 year vesting I will consider joining your team. just kidding what your team is doing are beyond me.
After checking simulation CFD 2015, I realized that one big advantage for LB+HB is that well, I didnt see a built in feature of taking account for direct solar gain as part of the simulation.
From the tutorials I have seen, they set the reference temperature to the exterior walls, but there is nothing solar. Here is a rather comprehensive video of how to set up for Simulation CFD . From 10:30 you can see that boundary condition for exterior walls is set with a film coefficient and Reference temperature (around 12:30). At 12:33, there is actually a parameter called radiation right below. I check the parameters for that myself and found that it includes emissivity and reference temperature but not watt hour per square meter like we have it with ladybug.
SO even for a software like simulation CFD, which already seems very sophisticated with the pay-as-you-go cloud parallel simulation option and all, I don't see that it is designed for simulating natural ventilation. Since with SIM CFD it seems that one can be precise about everything including heat plumes from artificial lights in terms of watts so I am guessing that there is a way to model in solar gain as some kind of projected geometry somehow but it is pretty clear that there is EXTRA WORK needed to factor in solar gain there.
I think it would be pretty major if there is a way to model solar radiation and CFD for interior/building envelop together because I have not seen that kind of simulation in the industry.
Thank you for the extra ref cayote and coolvent. I will make check them out along with SAM.
p.s. I reread what I wrote and just wanted clearify I sure didn't refer to any of your work with honeybee or ladybug as "artistic illustration." I meant my pretty arrows :)

e radius). I used David Stasiuk Cocoon in order to make the shape. http://www.bespokegeometry.com/2015/07/22/cocoon/
After being happy with the shape I toggle the final generation of mesh from Cocoon with a subd of 1 (126,792 faces). I then calculate direction I want for the pattern, here the same directions as the nearest curve. Surely not the smartest way of doing but it works.
After that Reaction Diffusion could be used. A good site to understand is http://www.karlsims.com/rd.html A good site to choose feed and kill values is http://mrob.com/pub/comp/xmorphia/index.html In order to modify the size of the pattern I use B diffusion and also the size of the mesh. The directionality is controlled by _factor > 1 and pattern will follow tangents, and < 1 pattern will be perpendicular to the tangents.
Here differents parameters to play with
This script could surely be used to replicate Nervous Reaction design, thanks to them to their creativity. http://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/Laurent Delrieu August 2015…

Embryo introduces ideas from Genetic Programming (GP) (not to be confused with genetic algorithms) to Grasshopper. It would be nice to get people thinking about working at higher levels of abstraction in a design computing context. It was the late Paul Coates who introduced me to GP in architectural design ten years ago.
Simply put, the idea is to write a program that writes a program (or in Grasshopper, generates a dataflow-based definition). There are good reasons I believe for looking into this outlined in my thesis (a kind of manual for Embryo is given in Chapter 6).
The three examples included should give an idea of what can be done, although I will upload more in due course as these only scratch the surface. Getting Embryo to work with Galapagos proved to be a bit of a challenge. The example included in the zip only shows a simple combinatorial problem that can be solved with Embryo, but the potential to find new parametric definitions for existing geometry is an exciting one.
Please note that there are some known bugs. For example, attempting to delete the component whilst active will crash Grasshopper, an event that I haven't been able to deal with yet. Also, I would advise not creating more than 1,000 components if you can help it!
One final point - I am not a software engineer and nor do I want to become one. Embryo should be seen as an idea more than a polished piece of software, but I'm curious to see if anyone cares or can use it in a meaningful way.
I will put the source up on git in due course if anyone is interested in how to manipulate components on the canvas and the suchlike, or branching to create their own Embryos.

the other pluggins again, I doubt that problems arise and if I already have them Which are due to the autodesk pluggins that I can install on another computer or mount a virtual machine, but I doubt it, I simply had to install Grasshopper first and then the rest.)
Problem:
Good day, afternoon or night, please help I can not install the Grasshopper plugin 0.9.76.0 in Rhinoceros 5SR13, I do not know if it is because I uninstalled the version of 32 Bit of Rhinoceros and I only have installed the 64 Bit version, I have installed on Rhinoceros 64 Bit:
Autodesk Realtime Renderer 2014 x64 Autodesk Shape Modeling 2014 x64 Autodesk T-Splines 2015 x64 V-Ray 2.00.23938 for Rhinoceros 5 x64 V-Ray Express 2 for Rhinoceros 5
I would infinitely appreciate the resolution to this problem, for the moment I can not think of anything other than to uninstall everything and leave only installed the program Rhinoceros 5SR13 with Grasshopper 0.9.76.0 and nothing more.
I already tried to download another new file from Grasshopper 0.9.76.0, which ruled out that this installer is wrong, what I could do is look for another version of Rhinoceros but I have the newest one or one of the newest versions: Rhino_5.13.60913.21340_x86_x64_Multi. Exe
I understand that the Grasshoper installer is showing me a message where it says there is a Win32 exception where the system can not find the source file, what I do not know is if this exception has to do with the Windows C /: Folder: Windows, subfolder: System32 or I do not know if it refers to that as I do not have the 32 bit version of Rhinoceros maybe the installer gets confused and generates the installation error exception.
Another thing to which the exception is associated is the start process file: Start.nfo or start information.
There is also a programming argument for file upload errors of boolean operations (geometry operators) associated with the platform operating system, a process called child process.
Also appears another note that says the installed package of a plugin called inspector and I do not know what else I can not explain.
I do not know what to do, I just happen to uninstall and install everything and I do not think the Rhinoceros installer has any errors, I have Windows 10 edition of Red Stone 1 of 64 Bit.
Thanks and if anyone had this problem and solved it please tell me how to fix it or if someone knows about programming you can tell me why all those errors or exceptions are.
Greetings, have a nice day, afternoon or night wherever you step or stand or wherever you are sitting or lying down.…
o students who do not come from a computational background. The idea of designing parametrically and use of computational methodologies is new to Indian context and has great potentials. Digital experimentations using computational techniques (primarily Rhino3D + Grasshopper) will initiate the discourse, followed by technical sessions, theoretical discussions and round-table conference. The primary aim of workshop is to introduce students with the emerging domain of computational design in architecture.
Parametric Design, in the history of architecture, has defined many rules for current designers and for future practitioners to follow. One of the strongest aspect that is prominent from this style is ‘geometry’. Arguably, there is nothing new about geometry and aesthetics forming the most prominent aspect of any style or era. The language of any style, in the long history of architecture, is visually defined by geometry or shape, beyond the principles that define the core of the style. In the distinguishable style of parametric architecture, geometry has played and is continuing to play an integral role. And with this fairly young style, there are many strings of myths and false notions associated.
The workshop aims to provide an insight to ‘parametric design’ and embedded logics behind it through a series of design explorations using Rhinoceros & Grasshopper platforms. An insight to Computational Design and its subsets of Parametric Design, Algorithmic Design, Generative Design and Evolutionary Design will be provided through presentations, technical sessions & studio work. A strong focus will be made on logics of design that can potentially be coded through a rational and parametric approach.
All rat[LAB]EDUCATION Workshops are tied up with a larger agenda of a buildable project for New Delhi, INDIA (Proposed for late 2015) & a publication scheduled for 2016. All participants will become a part of the growing EDUCATION network and will be exclusively invited for future events & studio activities.
// Methodology
Workshop has been structured to teach participants the use of Grasshopper® (Generative modelling plug-in for Rhinoceros) as a generative tool, and ways to integrate it with architectural processes. Throughout the use of visual scripting with Grasshopper participants will learn how to build and manage parametric data structures (from simple lists to complex data trees) and to develop data driven geometries & forms. No previous knowledge of Grasshopper is required, but a basic knowledge of Rhino modelling is preferred.
