ne diverse digital design methodologies and the use of different tools such as Autodesk Maya, Rhinoceros and Grasshopper.
Building up technical skills will provide the attendees with a solid platform from which to start rethinking and exploring innovative architectural ideas in collaboration with the team and the tutors.
URBAN FIELDS
Phase I
In the first part of the workshop attendees will be looking at field conditions and how to generate and design such fields that can help structure a possible urban condition in Florence.
We will be exploring dynamic systems, geometric systems and network theories to generate and design an abstract field condi- tion that extends the urban experience of the city onto the vertical dimensions of towers. Simple operations that would span variations from an initial state will give rise to high level of com- plexity.
The goal of this exercise is to create a rich and diversified intel- ligible urban space that can be later on subjected to local inter- ventions and zooming in to locally enhance each design.
AGENT - BODIES POLYMORPHISM
Phase II
The second part of the workshop will build upon first phase; par- ticipants will select one archetype (high rise tower) as a study model for further development.
Besides engaging with multi agent algorithms design strategies, attendees will address strategic utilisation of structurally and environmentally generated morphologies to design coherent and highly differentiated tower exo-skeletons.
Tutors will introduce agent-bodies polymorphism in order to explore the generation of structural aware and capable geom- etries through agent based formation of non-linear hierarchies and emergent patterns. These agent-bodies will operate in a complex spatial manner to form structure, partitions or enclo- sure and will operate across scales, creating a poly-scalar level of detail.
Attendees will speculate how autonomous systems can cre- ate new structures and intelligent distribution of structural elements, about new collaborative strategies of construction and the performativity they will evoke (performance, effects, responsiveness, interaction).

izing strength/spring stiffness and even the unit of your 3DM file setting.
sometimes the same pattern that can be planarized in one file would stop working once something else is modified. and sometimes the force can't even planarize one single cell.
I think you can find some idea from the following post:
http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/planar-polygons-by-using-kangaroo
'Reply by Daniel Piker on December 17, 2013 at 10:25am
Making the faces of a polygonal mesh planar is not always possible without dramatically changing the shape of either the polygons or the surface.
When the target surface has only positive Gaussian curvature it makes things somewhat easier, but the surface in your file also has regions of negative Gaussian curvature.
To approximate a surface of negative curvature with a discrete mesh, we need the angles around some of the vertices to sum to less than 360°. This is impossible to do in a mesh with 3 hexagons around each vertex without making some of these hexagons non-convex.
There are a few possible approaches, but I would say how to automatically cover an arbitrary surface with nicely shaped planar hexagons is still an unsolved problem.'
I have uploaded some test files for you to look at. …
make sure I add this information to groundTerrain_ inputs in the next few days.
So if you are using "Gismo Terrain Generator" component (former "Ladybug Terrain Generator 2" component), only the following types are allowed for groundTerrain_ input: type_ = 2 (surface with rectangular edges)
type_ = 3 (surface with circular edges)If you are using "Ladybug Terrain Generator" component, then only the:
type_ = 1 (surface with rectangular edges)
is allowed.
As for terrain not being colored when it is created as a surface, you can analyse it additionally with "Terrain Analysis" component for Elevation analysis type. It can even be colored for rendering afterwards by using the "OSM Render Mesh" component. Check the attached file below.Have in mind that in urban areas "Ladybug Terrain Generator" component produces much more precise terrain than "Gismo Terrain Generator" component. On the other hand, the latter component can generate much larger terrain areas (up to 10 000 sq km2, at least in theory).
The reason why component might still work even though a terrain mesh has been added to the groundTerrain_ input is probably because once groundTerrain_ input fails to convert a mesh to a brep, this results in it being equal to None. Component then considers as if groundTerrain_ input is empty and runs as if nothing has been added to it (the buildings are laid down on a flat plane with 0,0,0 as the plane origin).
Thank you once again for all the testing you are doing!!! It really makes Gismo a better plugin!!…

In other words, I'm looking for the GH equivalent of
Dim x As New List(Of List(Of List(Of Double)))
For example, I might have an outer list of 10 items each containing 20 lists with 30 items inside each 2nd tier list.
Say the outgoing gh_Structure is:
Dim outgoing_Struc as new gh_structure(of gh_number)
I can't seem to figure out how I might use the "append" method to GH_Structure to insert items to specific paths to create a list of a list.
The additional complexity is that I want to customize the indices of the outgoing list. Instead of the outer most list running straight from 0 to 9, I might want to have its indices non-sequential as {0}, {2}, {5}, {11} for example. This helps in using the "Tree Item" component downstream as these specific non-sequential indices refer to something specific upstream.
For example, with custom indices, I can pull a specific sublist by using index {11;3} which may not exists if the indices ran sequentially.
I guess the more general questions is whether anybody has pointers on creating nested trees in a custom component with specific indices? It appears that GH_Path has a "DebuggerDisplay" property which masks the internal continuously running index but this is a read only property.
Any pointers would be helpful
Thanks.…

he "return" is comment out as shown below?
After restarting Rhino and Grasshopper, I opened the outdoors_airflow demo file, and the first step of creating the case file is ok:
Then the blockMesh component gives the following error: seems I have to manually start OF first..
so, as the error message suggested, I open OF by Start_OF.bat:
Then come back to the blockMesh component, now it can be executed while the OF command line window is also openning:
... and the blockMesh finished successfully:
... so I proceeded to run snappyHexMesh, checkMesh and update fvScheme:
... up to the simpleFoam component, I got the error again:
The warning message is:
1. Solution exception: --> OpenFOAM command Failed!#0 Foam::error::printStack(Foam::Ostream&) in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so" #1 Foam::sigFpe::sigHandler(int) in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so" #2 ? in "/lib64/libc.so.6" #3 double Foam::sumProd<double>(Foam::UList<double> const&, Foam::UList<double> const&) in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so" #4 Foam::PCG::solve(Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double> const&, unsigned char) const in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so" #5 Foam::GAMGSolver::solveCoarsestLevel(Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double> const&) const in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so" #6 Foam::GAMGSolver::Vcycle(Foam::PtrList<Foam::lduMatrix::smoother> const&, Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double> const&, Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::PtrList<Foam::Field<double> >&, Foam::PtrList<Foam::Field<double> >&, unsigned char) const in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so" #7 Foam::GAMGSolver::solve(Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double> const&, unsigned char) const in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so" #8 Foam::fvMatrix<double>::solveSegregated(Foam::dictionary const&) in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libfiniteVolume.so" #9 Foam::fvMatrix<double>::solve(Foam::dictionary const&) in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/simpleFoam" #10 Foam::fvMatrix<double>::solve() in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/simpleFoam" #11 ? in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/simpleFoam" #12 __libc_start_main in "/lib64/libc.so.6" #13 ? in "/opt/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/simpleFoam"
... and the command lines in the readMe! output are pretty long and it is saved in the text file attached here.
So, my questions are:
1. why I have to manually start OF first before I can use the blockMesh component? Should butterfly automatically start OF?
2. what might be the cause of the unsuccessful run of simpleFoam in the end?
Hope you can kindly advise! Thank you!

y working on is a tensegrity structure that uses cables and a tensile fabric to apply traction. The basic cell of the structure is a sail with two parallel rods.
The easy one was the fabric anchored to the extremes of the rod. I got great results with the tensegrity model , very similar to physical models that I was working on.
But then I tried the same thing with the fabric anchored all along the rods, but it proved to be hard (read all the "rod discussion"). I tried the bending force, but was too unstable. The best model I got was by applying different stiffness to the mesh, specifically, to the lines that coincide with the anchors.
It's by no means the solution that I had in mind, but the next days I'll be testing it with the structure. I came across with the next thing to my ideal solution, Daniel's boat (https://vimeo.com/30128894), but I couldn't replicate it. Anyone has some idea of a different, more rigid solution? Even in K2, which I really don't understand yet, but any clue would be helpful.
Aside of that, I was also having trouble applying real values of stiffness. The third archive has the same definition that the first, but with real stiff values (the rods are wood, k=10^7 N/m, cables are nylon k=2x10^5 N/m). I adjusted the timestep and the subiterations, but it doesn't work as stable and smooth as the whatever-stiffness-sail. I don't know if isn't correctly calibrated, or my computer its too old (it pretty old and slow) or simply isn't a good definition.
If anyone has any idea it would be very much appreciated!
