AEC-APPS.COM REVIEW
cy of design communication and the control of information-flow are as important as the creativity of ideas. In response to the concurrent digital evolution emerging in the architectural industry world-wide, the Faculty of Architecture at The University of Hong Kong will host a two week intensive summer program named Digital Practice.Led by professors from The University of Hong Kong, as well as invited practitioners with expertise in practice of cutting edge digital techniques, the program offers participants opportunities to experience applications of computational tools during different stages of an architectural project, i.e. concept design, form finding and optimization, delivery, management and communication of design information under the team-based working environment. By learning advanced computational techniques through case studies in the context of Hong Kong, participants are expected to go beyond the conventional perception of technology, considering users and tools as a feedback-based entity instead of a dichotomy. The program, which is taught in English, includes a series of evening lectures related delivered by teaching staff and invited local architects. …
formance issue.
Reasons why I don't want to change the Integer parameter:
1) what about Number, and String, and Boolean, and Point, and Vector, and Line... should they also display the value? Or is the integer parameter supposed to be different from all the others?
2) what if you have multiple values inside a parameter. Should it grow to display them all? Should it grow to display only the first ten? Should it automatically switch to Icon-display?
3) would value display be a fourth kind of display type (alongside Name, Icon and App-default)?

2. Even cooler would be to make some kind of presentation preview. (GH disappears, rhino goes to fullscreen mode with somehow integrated remote panel). I like to watch apps/scripts made with processing, where sliders are really minimalistic.
3. Presentation preview may be optionally locked with password.
I realize that GH isnt processing, but this would be nice addition.

onstrates the following:
1. The definition's functionality employing HumanUI for the custom user interface.
2. The evaluation of the definition's ability to handle different point cloud data sets.
3. Video reports with the definition's results, animating subsequent per deviation step frames.
This definition calculates best fitting plane deviations. The number of manual set parameters has been minimized to two the facade per World UCS axis selection and the search width. This defines a box, which is used to crop protruding architectural details, which do not contribute to the analysis, but also ensures that large deformations are included in the calculation.
For the automation of the vertical and horizontal sections creation, the analyzed cloud is clustered, according to user defined number of 2d grid cells. The deviations corresponding to each cell are averaged in mean and median mode.
The process is displayed mostly in real time, with some speed up in some parts. Too long calculations have been omitted during video edit. The setup is responsive and benchmarks show that changing between dense point cloud data sets and facades is pretty quick (6.5-7.5M points, 25-45 deviation steps, 44x22 clusters), updates are calculated in acceptable timings (3-6 minutes).
I would like to thank Heumann A. and Zwierzycki M. who provided direct support with HumanUI and Volvox. Also Grasshopper3d forum users Maher S. and Segeren P., who contributed with Rhino viewport manipulation scripts.

to carry out without them. We will go through these plugins learning how they work, main features and advantages playing with practical exercises.
We will highlight key concepts in advanced design, architecture and engineering: topology, form-finding, structural optimization, fractals, loops, genetic and repetitive algorithms...
Also, we will see how to capture nice views and designs from your scripting, with a correct export option, animations...
This course is On-line live sessions (18hours), using our platform online.controlmad.com

- Generative path visualization
- Growth simulation by sub-D
- Generating and genetic algorithms

Main plug-ins shown:
> Kangaroo: The most famous and downloaded app for Grasshopper (it is built in the current Grasshopper for Rhino 6). It is a live physics engine interactive simulation, optimization and form-finding directly within Grasshopper
> Galapagos: available in the current Grasshopper build, it is a platform for the application of Evolutionary Algorithms to be used on a wide variety of problems by non-programmers
> Biomorpher: Interactive Evolutionary Algorithms (IEAs) helping designers to explore the wide combinatorial space of parametric models without always knowing where you are headed.
> Anemone: works using repetitive algorithms to create loops or sequencial structures like those ones seen in fractals.

ave the bytes available, they also need to be adjacent. All 4 frikkin trillion of them (assuming you need a million 1000x1000 pixel tiles). That's just not going to happen.
It could be that Photoshop has very clever memory management that allows it to store image data in non-consecutive chunks, but .NET does not allow this.
In fact this can be a real problem with much smaller images as well. In 32-bit Windows you're allowed 2GB of memory per application (sometimes 3). If Rhino+Grasshopper are already using up 1.5GB it's not like you can fit in an extra 0.5GB image before running into problems. Memory is almost never used in a consecutive fashion.
Rhino uses a clever memory manager (not the default Windows one) that results in less memory fragmentation and Grasshopper uses the .NET memory allocator and garbage collector which is capable of defragmenting memory usage. But even with these two optimizations memory fragmentation will occur (and the longer Rhino runs the worse it will get) making it less and less likely that you'll be able to find large consecutive areas of free memory.
The Grasshopper hi-res image exporter creates image tiles of 1000x1000 pixels and saves these files immediately. So it never requires more than 4MB while running. Once it's done making the images, it will start a different application that will stitch these images together. That's what the GrasshopperImageStitcher.exe in your screenshot is. Since this is a new app, it has 2GB of absolutely pristine memory to play with so it's a lot longer before it runs into problems. And when it does run into memory problems it won't bring down Rhino with it.

2. Modelo now supports VR! check out this video:
3. We've added a specular option in the rendering settings. So now you can have your design rendered a little bit shinny-er.
4. There is also a "filters" option in this panel, with which you can get some interesting image post processing effects. We are expanding this filter library, if you have any suggestions, please let us know.
5. This one is very important and has been requested by our customers for a long time. Now when you upload a model, you can grab the reviews(3d comments, screenshots, sketches) from your previously uploaded model! This works really conveniently if you use Modelo for your design review/presentation, cause you don't have to recreate the same 3d anchor views every time you made some changes to your design.
6. Also, our developer API is almost ready, which means if anyone is interested in developing a grasshopper plugin that works with Modelo, they can!
There are some many other updates and bug fixes happened. I don't want to list all of them here. Definitely stay subscribed with our newsletter. Modelo is thrived to grow into a more comprehensive platform! If you have any good ideas about our platform, please do not hesitate to let me know!
