So ... in a nutshell: It's a ping-pong thing: you design the "outline", Birdair calculates the membrane related forces, you test custom components (MSC Nastran, STAAD, RAM etc), you get feedback from someone capable to do these in real-life (like Donges GmbH), you argue about the cost (hideous, as usual), you replace bespoke custom cast things with commercially available ugly bits ... etc etc etc.
The big issue is that the whole design is supposedly a thing carried over under "some" BIM umbrella ... therefore the master composer must be either Revit (no thanks) or AllPlan (ditto) or AECOSim (yes please).
But these archaic things they don't understand an iota from MCAD stuff (most notably the assembly/component discipline or advanced feature driven nested components). But all things considered Microstation + Generative Components + AECOSim + Bentley structural analysis verticals define the most complete solution that you can use.
Moral: Chaotic chaos, what else?

It's quite a common way to describe meshes, Also the way your graphics card consumes meshes, so there's little CPU processing needed to process the meshes and feed them to the graphics card. If it's hard drive space you're worried about, there may be some compression possible. Apart from primitives, I don't know a geometry that do not represent a box by having four faces (including maya's polygons).
A mesh is considered closed when there are no naked edges. So for boxes this does not return false. I assume that internally spatial queries are used (or perhaps a check if the vertices are exactly the same)(see https://github.com/mcneel/rhinocommon/blob/master/dotnet/opennurbs/opennurbs_mesh.c )
Conclusion: If you want faces to show as having a (semi) creased edge, you'll have a vertex direction for each vertex.
However, if your goal is to make gears, I'd skip the whole part of creating meshes, and leverage Breps and extrusions to create the geometry, or using Extrusion (the geometry) might be a solution to create lightweight geometry, and forget about creating meshes yourself.

If this is not what you are seeing on your own machine when you hook up your HBZones to a panel, then you have not uploaded the right Rhino and Grasshopper file.
2) You have not run your HBZones through an EnergyPlus simulation. You need to do this in order to get data with which to construct the indoor temperature map. I would strongly recommend following along through the first 8 videos of this tutorial series before trying to construct an indoor radiant temperature map of your own project (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLruLh1AdY-SgW4uDtNSMLeiUmA8YXEHT_)
3) You are using components from the last stable release, which is fine but you should know that there has been a lot of development on the indoor temperature map workflow in the last 20 days (there is now a much cleaner workflow that integrates the air and radiant temperature with comfort alanyses now on the github). If you imagine using this workflow frequently, I would recommend updating with the Ladybug_Update Ladybug and Hopneybee_Update Honeybee components. See the attached recent file for how the workflow is currently structured.

ing on a project that has been left alone for a few months, when I couldn't get it just right and I'm finding myself thoroughly stumped. It was originally manually built in Rhino (see steps below) but I was hoping I could use GH to create better surfaces.
So, what I'm basically asking is if I can build this well using GH, and what approach I should use. It's basically a "c" shape, with a twisted octagonal surface of a varying diameter, but the files are attached.
I built this in Rhino using the following steps:
Drew my two outline curves, used tween curves to create a central line
Arrayed points at equal distances along the central curve, and drew perpendicular lines from these points to the outline curves
Created polygons (8 sided) using the line end points and added curve fillets
Manually rotated each polygon, by +15 degrees each time
Drew 2 edit point curves using opposite points on each polygon, connecting them all in a similar was to lofting
Used Sweep2, with the two twisted curves as the rails, and polygons as the cross sections
Extract isocurves, tweak, rebuild, use end polygon, split by isocurves, to sweep between each set of two isocurves
Tweak, rebuild, tweak, rebuild etc
My issue is that the surfaces this have produced can be a little tight/warped/loose/twisted/generally bad... And I was hoping someone on here could give me a little insight on how you'd approach this problem in GH. I know this is long, and rambling, but it someone could just point me in the right direction I'd be so grateful. I don't need a step-by-step, as I think it'd actually be good for me to figure it out by myself.

So I decided to write a simple orientation script to iterate over all permutations. And this is the result. Below are some technical notes.
I used the vertices of the shapes for creating a 3 point plane, and used it for orientation.
I used compound transform to combine multiple steps of transformation.
The cross reference component is very handy, generating all the possible combinations without worrying too much about data tree.

Just my first thoughts. That breakdown in optimization is just an example. Maybe 'sections' is an old-school way of seeing things, I just wanted to share some thoughts on the kind of content I look forward to seeing. It can be pragmatic topics, but also theoretical, and allow folks to share their projects and research. Some categories are specific, others broad. I suppose I'm interested in community building with regards to computational design. I think SmartGeometry attempted to accomplish this at some point in the past, to some degree. However their focus appears to be in the workshops and challenges.
I recall the silly flame wars that the CG industry had 20 years ago (lame). I'd avoid that, even if it meant forbidding the mention of any specific software in certain areas or in the entire forum. Which would be tricky, but the endless flame wars and silly comparisons were such a waste of everyone's time in CG.
Without dwelling on this too much yet, I think that the software specific questions belong in software specific forums. If we already had a common language for computational design, you'd just need to add the right description as a meta-tag to any Dynamo or Grasshopper forum post, and you'd be able to find analogous solutions in either forum effortlessly, right?
The Dynamo and Grasshopper forums lack design-centric content. The emphasis is generally on the tools and workflow. Computational design is hybrid in essence, it involves both design and computer programming (be it visual or textual). We could really use a forum for knowledge exchange where the expectation is that both are discussed with equal status.
I disagree that such a forum ought to exclude professional programmers. It should include professional programmers whom have an interest in design, and also include professional designers whom have an interest in computer programming, and everyone in between, and enthusiasts, and artists whom are curious about algorithms as a creative medium, and academics, and students, and etc etc. As long as there is rich content and activity on design as well, not only the computational bit, then the crowd will be diverse and we'll all have more to learn from one another.…
