WORKSHOP CLUSTERS
The sg2014 Workshop will be organised around Clusters. Clusters are hubs of expertise. They comprise of people, knowledge, tools, materials and machines. The Clusters provide a focus for workshop participants working together within a common framework.
Clusters provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, processes and techniques and act as a catalyst for design resolution. The sg2014 Workshop is made up of ten Clusters that respond in diverse ways to the challenge Urban Compaction.

CONFERENCE
After four intense days of innovative work, the 2-day sgConference offers an opportunity for critical reflection on what has been accomplished in the Workshop and in the global design arena. It will be an opportunity to open debates, pose questions, challenge orthodoxies, and propose new ideas.
The sgConference features invited keynote speakers showcasing major projects and research from around the globe, mixed with panel sessions for open debate. The end of the first day will include reports and highlights from the Workshop, giving an opportunity to view work created during the previous four days of intensive collaboration, design and development, followed by an exhibition of the work.

So:
1. We need some random collections (pts) on a List of untrimmed surfaces. Homogenous "random" distribution is better than the method used in the Dubai abstract sketch attached (but at some CPU cost, not a big deal since pts a few: David Rutten did some very good jobin the GH component on that "even" matter). Adding random "noise" (with user controllable min/max values) is the easy thing: like the 256 does.
2. We need some "similarly" defined random pts applied on each surface edge.
3, We "join" 1+2 and do the del mash thing (that's the easy part). Thus the "similar" constrain is critical here for aesthetic purposes (see 2).
4. For each subsequent surface (sharing common edge, that is) we repeat by adding the pts related with the common edge.
5. Arriving to the last surface: we use either one common edge or two if the surfaces define some "closed" (in U or V) combo.
PS: Novice means nothing: we all are novices more or less: so don't let this "truncate" your aspirations.…
e vertical load V = q * l/2 and the sum-vector of H and V points in the tangent direction of the cable (as zilic mentioned before).
For example:
The wight of the wet fabric q = 4 kg/m == 0.04 kN/m, l = 2 m and you choose f ~ 0.20 m, then
H = 0.04 * 2^2/(8*0.2)= 0.10 kN and V = 0.04 kN
If you reduce f to f ~ 0.05 m (5 cm) then H will become 4 times more > H = 0.40 kN, V = 0.04 kN
The formular is a very good approximation, but it does`nt include the elongation of the cable itself. If you want to be exact, you have to add df (due to the elongation of the cable under load) to f (the sag of the cable without load) and, of course, you have to add the wight of the cable itself to the wet fabric load too.

o or more curves, I would like it to affect the entire structure, as shown in figure 2.
Figure 3 shows a model of what I am attempting to achieve in two dimensions.
I have attached my grasshopper file with the grid shown in the images and my inital attempts at trying to undertstand and achieve this result.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks,
Alex

are just the 8 cases, so you're actually doing it right here (scroll down on this page, and you'll see a separate subset all about marching tetrahedrons http://paulbourke.net/geometry/polygonise/). The benefit to using marching tetrahedrons is exactly this: that the number of possible "cuts" through the tetrahedron are dramatically smaller in number than those through a cube.
However, I have found that also what you're seeing that the linear interpolation creates some odd distortions (which is why I went ahead and later did the marching cubes implementation). Some of this comes from the density of the sampling grid: the more dense, the fewer distortions.
What I would suggest, if you want a (relatively) quick way to improve this outcome:
1) build up a full mesh rather that bunch of surfaces, and use Rhinocommon to combine identical vertices, and rebuild the vertex normals
2) run a couple rounds of laplacian smoothing on the mesh to better distribute your vertices (for each vertex, make it equal in location to the average of its neighbours)
3) create a line normal to each vertex roughly the length of your sampling grid and test the endpoints of it against your scalar field formula, and then do one final linear interpolation between those two points for your vertex.
This should give you a smoother mesh for sure.
But good work getting this far! …

radiance parameters to get rid of blotching. To add another level of complexity to my problem, I am running simulations with a translucent material with the following properties: void trans testTrans

7 0.478 0.478 0.478 0.000 0.010 0.178 0.635
I have had no issues with the renderings when I use clear glazing, as seen on this image:
However the blotching-issue becomes very noticeable when I introduce translucent glazing into the scene:
For the two above cases I used the following parameters:
_av_ is set to 0
xScale is set to 2
_ab_ is set to 6
_dc_ is set to 0.5
_aa_ is set to 0.2
_ad_ is set to 2048
_st_ is set to 0.5
yScale is set to 2
_ps_ is set to 4
_ar_ is set to 64
_as_ is set to 2048
_ds_ is set to 0.25

_dp_ is set to 256
_dt_ is set to 0.25
_lr_ is set to 6

_lw_ is set to 0.01
I ran another test with increased Radiance parameters and got the following output:
with the following parameters:
_av_ is set to 0
xScale is set to 6
_ab_ is set to 6
_dc_ is set to 0.75
_aa_ is set to 0.1

Although the second blotching case is much better than the first, it is still very bad for hours when the sun is lower in the sky. The above images are rendered for a clear sky at 18:00 in Germany in a West-facing room.

nd) group you have an MD Slider. When you move the point on the grid you see that the values change in the yellow panel output for list items index 1 & 2.
I would like to find a method to not change the values, but add a new index and list item for each change made with MD slider. I'm fully aware of the fact that this would generate a tremendous amount of data.
When I eventually have a list with 128, 256, 512 or maybe 1024 items, I would like to create a line with these values as points.
Though, making the line from values is no prob, I've already done that with the series and range components.
There must be a way of storing numbers in some kind of buffer somewhere, or what? I know I could save my data from pd as a file and import it in grasshopper, but the nice thing with the udp/osc connection is the realtime exchange.
Also, I could write a VB/C# script, but before I spend several weeks learning and implementing this, I figured I'd ask here because there simply HAS to be some easier way to do it, like a check box that says 'keep values' or something. As I said, it's noob question... oh well.
Thanks for any help, it's driving me nuts.…
though, I suspect they roughly have the same approach:
Create the mesh or the bitmap, this gives you a rectangular grid of sampling points. The density of these points equals the accuracy of your result. The accuracy (i.e. spacing between adjacent sample points) should be significantly smaller than the smallest geometric details on your regions.
For each pixel/vertex in the bitmap/mesh, sum up the contributions of each region. This is obviously quite tricky, because one needs to take the whole region into account, weighing nearby areas of a region more strongly than distant ones.
Elevate the mesh vertices based on the summed illumination, or, if you have a bitmap, create a heightfield mesh.
Contour the mesh.
In code I would in fact take a different approach to step (2). Instead of iterating over all sampling points and summing up all region contributions, I'd iterate over all regions and affect all illuminated sampling points. It's logically the same thing but my gut tells me it'll be easier to optimize this way.
One problem with a bitmap approach is that you'll be limited to the colour accuracy. If you go for greyscale then you'll only have 256 levels to play with. If you're willing to use the full integer range you get a more wiggle room, but your bitmaps will not be 'readable' by human eyes until you map the values back to some smooth gradient. The big benefit of bitmaps is that they're fast and easily storable and shareable as files.…
