The Responsive Surfaces Workshop _ LA 2012 will explore the use of Grasshopper, Firefly and Arduino as creative and technical tools in the design, simulation and prototyping of intelligent building skins. Grasshopper, a free plug-in for McNeel’s Rhino modeler, allows designers to create adjustable parametric forms through graphic icons rather than programming. Firefly is a new set of comprehensive software tools dedicated to bridging the gap between Grasshopper, theArduino micro-controller, the internet and beyond. It allows near real-time data flow between the 3D digital and physical worlds, and will read/write data to/from internet feeds, remote sensors, connect with machine vision protocols, and more.
Instructor: Jason Kelly Johnson, Firefly co-developer, Future Cities Lab and the CCA San Francisco Lecturer: Miles Kemp, President of Variate Labs and co-author of “Interactive Architecture”
Additional Information: Workshop Location: 8451 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90048 (GOOGLE MAP) Required Materials: Each participant should bring their own Sparkfun Inventors Kit or equivalent. and fabrication procedures, is being conducted in June-July 2014 in association with Shih Chien University and Tamkang University in Taipei, Taiwan. The interdisciplinary workshop provides an opportunity to architects and designers to be a part of the 12 day studio and investigate interactive design and fabrication solutions for dynamic socio-cultural fabrics.
ExtraFabrica is a part of Dezact’s exploration aiming to develop and test interactive design and fabrication scenarios in neglected or problematic urban interstices and ecologies, to adapt to existing constructs for new use and identity, to catalyse socio-cultural activities and to engage behaviour parallax between physical and virtual environments. Conditions of 'live' factors with extended duration and occupation, i.e. street life, derelict buildings, traffic, rain, dance, demonstration, and so on, are invited to interfere with quantifiable or codify-able parameters set out by design algorithm, feedback mechanism and fabrication dynamics. The idea envisages architectural outcome which enables fabrication of action, of participation, of change of values, of identity, of confluence of voices and dreams.

connected hyperspace where architecture can be fluid, flexible and vivid, yet the aspect of materiality requires more attention.
Action-designed structures begin to move beyond the utopian proposals of the 20th century’s manifestos and hold a place in the world of realized designs. The AA Athens Visiting School aims to bring users closer to the built environment while revisiting habits of designing, building and experiencing space through materiality. Understanding materiality and form as a ‘unified whole’, the programme integrates manufacturing techniques through the experimentation fabrication of prototypes at a 1:1 scale.
Prominent Features of the workshop/ skills developed
Participants become part of an active learning environment where the large tutor to student ratio allows for personalized tutorials and debates.
The toolset of the Athens VS includes but is not limited to Processing and Grasshopper for Rhinoceros, as well as design analysis software.

cy of design communication and the control of information-flow are as important as the creativity of ideas. In response to the concurrent digital evolution emerging in the architectural industry world-wide, the Faculty of Architecture at The University of Hong Kong will host a two week intensive summer program named Digital Practice.Led by professors from The University of Hong Kong, as well as invited practitioners with expertise in practice of cutting edge digital techniques, the program offers participants opportunities to experience applications of computational tools during different stages of an architectural project, i.e. concept design, form finding and optimization, delivery, management and communication of design information under the team-based working environment. By learning advanced computational techniques through case studies in the context of Hong Kong, participants are expected to go beyond the conventional perception of technology, considering users and tools as a feedback-based entity instead of a dichotomy. The program, which is taught in English, includes a series of evening lectures related delivered by teaching staff and invited local architects. …

The thing is that if I raise the -aa parameter from 0.05 to 0.1 all works fine..
Is this only related to my PC then?? What should I do to solve this issue?
Thanks again for your help
