I understand.
I think honeybee and ladybug together are already a great design tool. I didn't realize the whole story with CFD and the various ways you have tried. Have a lot of respect for your project and your colleagues that are working on this, and I hope you guys get enough credit just going for it considering just how ambitious your project is. and open-source equivalence of at least 7 percent equity share too :) as in per owners. if you guys can offer 1 year cliff and 4 year vesting I will consider joining your team. just kidding what your team is doing are beyond me.
After checking simulation CFD 2015, I realized that one big advantage for LB+HB is that well, I didnt see a built in feature of taking account for direct solar gain as part of the simulation.
From the tutorials I have seen, they set the reference temperature to the exterior walls, but there is nothing solar. Here is a rather comprehensive video of how to set up for Simulation CFD . From 10:30 you can see that boundary condition for exterior walls is set with a film coefficient and Reference temperature (around 12:30). At 12:33, there is actually a parameter called radiation right below. I check the parameters for that myself and found that it includes emissivity and reference temperature but not watt hour per square meter like we have it with ladybug.
SO even for a software like simulation CFD, which already seems very sophisticated with the pay-as-you-go cloud parallel simulation option and all, I don't see that it is designed for simulating natural ventilation. Since with SIM CFD it seems that one can be precise about everything including heat plumes from artificial lights in terms of watts so I am guessing that there is a way to model in solar gain as some kind of projected geometry somehow but it is pretty clear that there is EXTRA WORK needed to factor in solar gain there.
I think it would be pretty major if there is a way to model solar radiation and CFD for interior/building envelop together because I have not seen that kind of simulation in the industry.
Thank you for the extra ref cayote and coolvent. I will make check them out along with SAM.
p.s. I reread what I wrote and just wanted clearify I sure didn't refer to any of your work with honeybee or ladybug as "artistic illustration." I meant my pretty arrows :)

ld work.
For example there's a grid shell and I've got a number of control points (for example 3) that can move up and down.
Depending on the control points I get forms that are structurally good and some that are bad.
In my office we've got a GH-Component, which leads the geometry in structural members and solves the structural forces and so on through an external Software called Sofistik and afterwards gives back to GH some Values, for example maximum bending moments. (Like Karamba)
Now I want to create this optimization component or something like that to minimize e.g. the bending moments in the given geometry.
Let's start with the work of the component.
So when I've three control points that can only move in z-direction.
P1(0,0,Z1), P2(10,0,Z2), P3(5,5,Z3)
They only depend on Z, so everything depends on Z1 to Z3 which have a range between 0 and 10 f.e.
First I want to get some (between 9 and 15) random Particles, one particle consists of this 3 different Z's.
So for example the first particle Part1 is [Z1=10, Z2=5, Z3=7]
and the second particle Part2 is [Z1=7, Z2=1, Z3=9]
and so on.
I created these Start Particles in a Cluster. See attached file.
I also tried this in C#, but thought it is easier in GH.
After I've got the Start Particles I want to give out the first particle and evaluate with its including Z's the target value in GH. Therefore I had to take the first branch and graft this branch (Discussion before)
Afterwards I want to save this Target Value that depends on the first starting Particle. Then I want to give out the second starting Particle to evaluate its target Value and store it. And so on till the last target Value of the last Starting Particle got assigned.
Then I want to assign the particles with its target values. E.g. part1: t=0.9, part2: t=1.8...
Then I want to define neighborhoods or the count of the expected local minima.
These neighborhoods can look like: Each neighborhood has to include not less than 3 particles. And the particles have to be next to each other.
E.g. if there are 12 particles and I want to have a look for 3 local minima, I need 3 or 4 neighborhoods. Then I would take 3 neighborhoods, because the more particles in one neighborhood, the better.
So the Count of the neighborhoods would be N=min{(Count of Part/3)& N_min}
How to define these neighborhoods I don't know at the moment. I think it has to be searched for the distance between the particles. E.g. part1 with (9,9,9) and part2 with (9,9,8) are next to each other but part 3 with(1,1,2) is far away.
Then each StartParticle is set to Partx_localbest.
And in each Neighbourhood the best of these localbeststs is Part_NyBest. (The best ist the one with the smallest target Value)
Loop:
Now I want to create new Particles. These Particles don't change their Z-values randomly. They change their Z-Values depending on Part_NxBest and Part_localBest. Therefore it has to be evaluated a new velocityfactor with v_Partx_new=0,792*v_PartxOld+1,5*random(0,1)*(partx_localbest-partx)+1,5*random(0,1)*(part_NyBest-partx)
The new particles will then be partx_new=partx+v_Partx_new.
The new Particle partx_new will be set to partx and then set in the output.
then there has to be caught the targetValue of part1 afterwards part2 can be put out and its target value caught and so on.
Then it has to be looked for the Partx_localbest through comparing the partx_localbest and its target value with the new part_x and its target value. If the target value of the new partx is smaller than partx_localbest,
then partx_localbest is the new partx.
This has to be done for each partx. Afterwards the same for neighborhoods best (best of all partx_localbest in one neighborhood)
Endloop if velocity gets small.
Output all part_NxBest
Output all targetvalues of the part_NxBests.
So in the Input there have to be:
StartParticles if they are given through the cluster attached.
Device on the target Value like in the attached gh.file from David Rutten I found in the discussions
Count of neighborhoods
And in the output
Output particle for evaluation
Output all part_NxBest
Output all targetvalues of the part_NxBests
Hope didn’t forget anything. And hope it isn’t crushed to badly. Sorry for my bad English by the way ;-)
For more explanation, how the PSO works in other programs. There’s attached a workflow script (is it called like that?) I think for GH it should be a little bit changed like I tried in my explanations.
So if you can help me a in some parts or you have any advices would be great, otherwise thank you nevertheless!!!!
Thankfully there’s no limit for the words in the discussions :-D
Best, Heiko

[.] Descrizione:

not sure why it broke down again).
I have a the following code written in C#:
namespace blahblah.Extensions{
public static class TransformMethods{
public static AxisAngle ToAxisAngleRepresentation (this Transform m){
//Implemented code here
}
}
}
I have several methods to extend Transform struct, in order to convert 4x4 matrices into different formats e.g. axis-angle representation. In this case the return AxisAngle is one of my custom structs. My desire is to script completely in Python from Grasshopper. However I cannot seem to access these extension methods from there.
I have done the following:
1) I compile "blahblah.dll" and place it in my Grasshopper components directory.
2) To test it I use a C# component and reference the dll from "manage assemblies". The C# component automatically adds "using blahblah.Extensions". I feed in a Transform struct called m and am able to call m.ToAxisAngleRepresentation() without errors. Everything is good. (except maybe intellisense doesn't pick it up the method)
3) Next I wish to do the same thing in a Python component. (Here I am still confused about referencing external libraries). I first add my bin/release folder (where blahblah.dll is located) to my sys.path.
4) Next I add clr.AddReference("blahblah.dll")
5) I add the following line:
from blahblah.Extensions import *
which I would assume is equivalent to "using blahblah.Extensions" in the C# component
6) I then test with the following code:
m = Transform()
m.ToAxisAngleRepresentation()
7) I get the following error: Runtime error (MissingMemberException): 'Transform' object has no attribute 'ToAxisAngleRepresentation'
A further question I have with Python components. If I copy my dlls into the Grasshopper component folders. Do I still need to perform steps 3 and 4?
Thanks!

ns about them.
It's a direction for Kangaroo I very much intend to continue developing - and I am still getting to grips with the possibilities and experimenting with how different optimization and fairing forces work in combination with one another, so I would value your input and experience.

At the moment the Laplacian smoothing is uniformly weighted, which tends to even out the edge lengths as well as smoothing the form, which is sometimes desirable, and sometimes not. It also tends to significantly shrink meshes when the edges are not fixed.
I plan to try some of the other weighting possibilities, such as Fujiwara or cotangent weighting (see [1] and [3]), as well as other fairing approaches, such as Taubin smoothing [2], Willmore flow[4], and so on. This also has applications in the simulation of bending of thin shells.
Planar quad panels are often desirable, but I'm finding that planarization forces alone are sometimes unstable, or cause undesirable crumpling, so need to be combined with some sort of fairing/smoothing, but the different types have quite different effects, and the balance is sometimes tricky.
There's also the whole issue of meshes which are circular (I posted a demo of circularization on the examples page), or conical (this one still isn't working quite right yet), and their relationship with principal curvature grids and placement of irregular vertices, all of which is rather different when the whole form is up for change, rather than having a fixed target surface [7].
I'm also trying to get to grips with ways of making surfaces of planar hexagons, which need to become concave in regions of negative Gaussian curvature (see this discussion)
and I hope to release soon a component for calculating CP meshes, as described in [8], which I think could have many exciting construction implications.
While there are a number of well developed smoothing algorithms, their main area of application so far seems to be in processing and improving 3D scan data, so using them in design in this way is somewhat new territory. There can be structural, fabrication or performance reasons for certain types of smoothness, but of course the aesthetic reasons are also often important, and I think there are some interesting discussions to be had here about the aesthetics of smoothness.
Anyway, that's enough rambling from me, hopefully something there triggers some discussion - I'm really keen to hear about how all of you envision these tools might be used and developed.

You are able to write an expression for parameter components, but as of yet I haven't found a variable that doesn't throw an error. For an "Integer" parameter, for instance, neither "Int" nor "7" works. :)
2) I know Clusters is still probably on the list for a major overhaul. But in the meantime... is it possible to add edit functionality that will actually update the component in the original definition?
3) Along separate lines... can we please please have edit user object capabilities? I find that now and then I want to edit one of my user objects and then I am forced to recluster, re-assign icon, rewrite description, re-add to user objects, etc. Would love to be able to just edit.
4) I'm getting used to the middle mouse menu... but I still don't like it. I don't find that it adds any real functionality or time savings, in fact I am generally faster at grabbing the icon from the menu bar I think. I don't think it's about how difficult it is to teach to newbies, for me it's more about making something more complicated than it needs to be. Also, the modal buttons don't really want to be buried in a hidden menu. If your solver is locked, for instance, you should see that modal toggle at all times. We had a student who had inadvertently locked his solver and it took a few minutes of debugging to discover what had happened, since the button is hidden in the spider-menu.
5) Any progress on Remote Control Panel or a custom Control Panel Mode as in Max/MSP?
I'm sure there are other things, but those are the biggest ones off the top of my head.
Cheers!
Marc

(Boundary Representation]. Thus a Brep is 2 things: the underlying "guide" surface and "regions" that do the massacre.
2. As delivered and if you chose the equivalent boolean some Delaunay faces are removed from the mesh IF their center (the projection in an automated made "min" plane) is contained (is inside) to a giiven hole. Now ... the anchors ARE not the white points ... they are their projections on the terrain (the red ones). Thus proper springs "pull" the white points towards the red ones.
3. Max span is a term used in that ugly part of life (the real-life) and indeed refers to some distance between mount points. For instance the Golden Gate has a max span of 1280 m. Span means money and big span ... er ... means lot's of money (even on trusses, considerably less so in tensile membranes).
5. Coding is like riding properly a proper Ducati (avoid the 999 at any cost): easy provided that you can ride it. Lethal in any other situation. But the good (or bad) news are that girls don't ride that type of bikes.
6. This makes me entirely off-topic > Oops > anything that I do/think points directly or indirectly (in most of the threads in this Forum) towards real-life AEC thingies. I never (ever) think within an Academic/Theoretical framework. BTW: Avoid social networks > or say hello to Skynet (or lobotomy).

3. Design a custom aluminum beam (or contact Fipa) - BTW. Chinese do custom stuff for peanuts money.
4. Create the vault LBS first using the beams (the "skeleton").
5. Study Migua elastic inserts (critical) and Ceresit PE/S sealants. Get the gist of bridging gaps as a pro.
6. Use marine grade plywood only as a facet top cover (and some proper false ceiling). Plywood dimensions are usually 1.20 * 2.20 m. A 25 mm sheet could be OK for a small vault. DO NOT varnish the plywood. Epoxy glue linear aluminum L (10/10 mm) along the upper lips (in order to allow silicone to adhere properly (not shown in the image below) : failing to do that ... buy an umbrella).
7. Use trigonometry to calculate the variable beam placement per module.
