"Type hint") would be faster than "No Type Hint" (which I suppose is essentially a form of Duck Typing). But I guess that is simply due to the small cost of casting which accumulates and become more apparent when performed on large input lists. The other two points are very clear and understandable. It's interesting to hear that compiled components will be faster. Do you think this is also the case for the new compiled GHPython component in the Rhino 6 WIP?Your general advice on performance also make perfect sense. This was what initially made me run these tests. And the fact that by making just a few simple alterations to a scripting component you can make it substantially faster (whether C# or Python), seemed like important information to share. Hehe, with regards to which language to implement I try to adhere to the Rule of Least Power, which as you correctly mention is more often than not about productivity before optimization :)I have previously been testing whether or not it is worth it to implement things like Numpy/Scipy for numerically intense calculations, but have since dropped it due to its incompatibility with 64 bit IronPython. We have also been experimenting with using ctypes to call compiled C++ code which actually works quite well (although debugging can be a hassle). I suppose in the end it'll likely be much less of a headache to simple go with C# for this kind of work and use libraries from the .NET world. It is a bit of shame though, what with the large amount of potentially very useful Python modules from the world of scientific computing (which seem to all rely on Numpy). Thanks again,Best,Anders…
ou require a specific plugins which only works on different versions. I'd get rid of 32-bit Rhino altogether if possible, it doesn't sound like it's updating correctly.
T-Splines I'm sure uses a custom installer instead of RHI. RHI ships with Rhino and if Grasshopper was installed with the one that was part of your 32-bit installation something may have gone wrong. RHI has had several serious bugs that should be fixed in Rhino5 SR6.
Here's some things to try:
Right click on an RHI file in Windows explorer and choose the Open With... option. Then click on Browse... and locate the rhiexec.exe program that is located in Program Files\Rhinoceros 5 (64-bit)\System\x64. This will associate RHI files with the newest version of rhiexec.exe on your machine. Install Grasshopper.rhi (the latest version 0.9.0061) to see if it appears in Rhino5 this time.
You can also manually install Grasshopper. Locate the GrasshopperPlugin.rhp file on your machine and drag+drop it into a running instance of Rhino5 64-bit. If Grasshopper has been installed into the (x86) portion of Program Files you can choose to put it somewhere else too, not sure if that would cause a problem.
I don't know why it would suddenly be very slow, but I'd like to know if it's still slow on 64-bits. Also, I'll need you to test the latest version because if there's a bug in older versions only then there's no point in fixing it.

2012 Ultimate. I can open my component in Grasshopper, which has the null reference error 1. Solution exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object, fine. Now I want to debug in Visual Studio, but my modules say no .pdb file only for any .gha,.dll's, and .rhp's found in C:\Users\Nathaniel\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\Plug-ins\Grasshopper (b45a29b1-4343-4035-989e-044e8580d9cf)\0.9.76.0\. The Debug only loads pdb. for symbols in servers and Grasshopper\Libraries, with one exception for Grasshopper.dll which is the only grasshopper component with a .pdb file in the \Mcneel\Rhinoceros...
Where are the .pdb files for all the other components Starling_0.2.gha, C_sawapan_media_x64.dll, Vector.gha, GH_IO.dll...? I'll run off the checklist of what I've tried:
GrasshopperDeveloperSettings turn off COF
made sure Debug Platform Target is 64, as well as Configuration Manager
add reference in Tools>Options>Symbols add reference (pdb.) to file for where the component files are found.
clicked on load symbols, but that doesn't help or save any .pdb's in my symbolcache.
added same location in ProjectProperies>ReferencePath
added same location in RhinoDeveloperSettings Add Folder
Do I not even need these symbols to debug? Is there a way to add .pdb's manually to my symbolcache? Why does my breakpoint say The debugger could not locate the source file 'C:\dev\grasshopper\1.0\root\src\GH_Component.vb'? I think I read that Grasshopper was written in .vb..Why does my callstack say Grasshopper.dll!Grasshopper.Kernel.GH_Component.New(String name, String nickname, String description, String category, String subCategory)? Why the ! after the .dll?
I am thankful for any input

like structure for my energy efficiency design!
Until now I made a:
1. Following "Tessellated Folding" Tutorial from http://livecomponents-ny.com, I made a line, divide it, made circles and loft it.
2. Then I find Midpoints, move it, and make circles.
2. With help of "cull pattern and curve on surface by digitaltoolbox.info" , I made a def. for InterCrv (or Arcs) trough 1. and 2. Points.
That's all.
My questions are:
1. How can I make a branches form divided Loft surface points? Now I have 64 Paths with N=4... I need 8 Path (Surface dividing Number) and N=8 (also SRFs dividing Number)? I need this to close all circles from new 8 points, or make arcs, or whatever!
2. How to make a Surface form 1. and 2. Points?
If I Loft it, it makes a surface, but not exactly one!!!And I use GH 0.6; there is no "Surface from Edge" option. No flip Matrix neither!
3. What definition do I need for applying my worm on multiply curves? (I figurate out a definition for measuring a longest crv, if it helps). I think that problem is in "Sectional Geometry Controller" ( I took it from livecomponents-ny.com Tessellated Folding tutorial), it is just one line for one crv.
I would really appreciate some help on any of these questions! I am spending too much time spinning around ;(
Thanks a lot
Igor

ask for some help and I sent the def to someone who tested the def out and made it work and send it right back to me and I got the same error I realized something wasnt right.
here some images of what the def does
Flat hexagonal panels over a given surface.
I get errors with the sliders and the VB script. Original script by Luis Fraguada from LAN then Davide del Giudice/ from madeincalifornia Checked out the definition because I have almost no knowledge with scripting and he made it work and sent those images back to me and this definition fixed, wich doesnt work on my computer and here some images of the problem.
and here some images of the problem.

me work I was doing on DP on GH. Here are my conclusions:
- As Rhino is not a constraint-based modeller, assembly design without plugins(RhinoWorks or else) is just not possible. So as long as constraints will not be present in rhino... no constraints, no AEC.
- The list management that GH offers is 10 000 time more efficient and user friendly. So a good point would be to link all the list management tools with GH-like interface. In fact, for all operations that are not concerning assembly (wireframe generation for example), GH is way ahead in terms of speed IF you're not dealing with geodesic curves or parallels on surface, eventually boolean operations, that are really a weakness of Rhino in terms of precision and stability. You can also do amazing synchronised attributes datatrees quite easily in GH, that you can then synchronise via Excel with a massive product based on Catia without problem. It can easily save you a few days of work.
- Rhino does not handle pre-computation of the geometry without loading effectively that geometry, so you will not be able today to work on a product bigger than 2Gb (maybe 3) in rhino in any way, even on rhino v5 64 with 16Gb of Ram. With the constraint stuff, I really think it is the second bad point about rhino.
- As Jon said, I think Rhino has to be understood as a sketch-oriented application for the construction (this is not pejorative, that's what I personnaly prefere) in a sense that its usefulness is to allow research of design possibilities, that you can of course link afterwards with what you want, but too much basic options are missing to rhino to be really viable for AEC. I personnaly don't want to see geometrical sets to appear in rhino, it is absolutely useless considering grasshopper evolution towards clusters for exemple.
After that, in purely technical terms I would say that:
1) Possible, partially already working --> Clusters (waiting for updates)/nested definitions + SQL for attributes management on several working definitions.
2) --> I think there are two ideas here: a) exporting some dead geometry in an arborescence of files (can be done quite easily with LocalCode but it will remain dead. You can also create a definition based on dead geometry and update this geometry using the geometry cache. Of course if this geometry is automatically exported via LocalCode from a precedent definition, when you update the upper definitions then the modification is repercuted on all your model. Personnaly I think it is best not to do it in rhino. b) otherwise, it is just synchronisation of public attributes attached to existing parts/products, as I described previously.
3) Geometry Cache. You can also auto-loop you file using loading/unloading input geometry of your desifnition with LocalCode and some VB.
But maybe I am wrong on some points of course.
Best,
Thibault.

Looking at the price, I would buy the second one…but I would ask you one thing....Considering that using Grasshopper I will create really complex works, using a GeForce instead a Quadro processor could it be a problem??…

thisthe errorthat appen when i lunch E+ with only one zone....what is going on???? …
added a separate location for the kangaroo files in GrasshopperDeveloperSettings just to be sure, everything is unlocked, I have .net Framework 4.5.1 installed, turned of Coff and forced Direct via the about panel. I'm working with Rhino 5 SR 12 on 64 bit, Grasshopper build 0.9.0076 on Windows 8.1.
I still get this error in the Rhino command line (translated from Dutch):
'An attempt was made to load an assembly from a network location. This allows the assembly to be placed in a sandbox in earlier versions of the .NET Framework. In this version of the .NET Framework CAS policy is not enabled by default. This loading operation can therefore be dangerous. If this loading operation is not intended to place the assembly in a sandbox, you must turn on the switch load from remote sources. See http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=155569 for more information.'
I hope someone can help me with this!
Thanks!
