Diffraction , I left it, how it is.
For the unusual issues that comes in the image source component, so, is it something strange? But, I still have the same issues when I sets any integer component (single or multiple) in the “reflection order” of the image source component, in the “image source order” in the ray tracing component, and again, when I connect the output “Direct sound data” of Direct Sound component in the Energy Time Curve.
Do I wrong something with the integer component? I used it already in the first parts, for sets “grasshopper layers”, in the “Scene” component, but here it works. Should I start with a new file?
For the multi-object optimization, thank you for all suggestions. Yes, I red PHD thesis work of Tomas Mendez and the article “ EDT, C80 and G Driven Auditorium design” and still others. Thank you to all these articles, I decided where to focus my thesis.
I understand the potential of Multi-object optimization, and problems that I can finding without using it. Actually, in the beginning of my thesis, I tried to jet in contact with the Politecnico di Torino, but was not easy because I’m not a Politecnico student.
Here, in University of Florence (Building engineering), there isn’t a department or someone that is already familiar with these field of study, so, as you can image, for design my thesis, I can confide on online resources. So far, my Professor suggest me to begin with a Nonlinear Global optimization like Galapagos, and only after see the multi-object. In this way, step by step if something doesn’t work is easier to understand way and where something is going wrong: if are problems due to the setting of the programs, because we are not practical about these, or if there is a wrong in the simulations or in the algorithm and ect.
Do you think is a good way for go on?
Thank you very much,
Kind Regards
Giulia

ructural member. It can only be used as a Veneer / Cladding. You may observe from my sketch that structural member is only a timber frame. Hence we do not need to have a valid bond as long as the brick veneer is tied together with each other and to the timber structural frame behind.
Nevertheless, though i understood the components used in the definition, i only partially understood the logic behind your definition i.e. only until 'Divide Dist' and Extracting the points. After that I did not understand the logic behind using
a) Extracting 40 random values and than using those values as input for Seed to extract another set of 40 random values.
b) Extracting list length, subtracting with random values created in (a) above and then dividing with number 3.
c) Duplicating the Datas
d) The most perplexing is using above logic (a,b,c) to to extract number of branches (number-40) by using Tree Statistics. If number 40 is the input we required for 3rd Random component Why couldn't we connect the List Lenght to Pramviewer and extract the number of branches (40) and connect the output to the Random Component?
e) Finally i did understand the logic behind creating 2 Vector to create the bricks. But i did not understand the addition following the vector.
f) Why do you use the function 'simplify'? - what does it do? I know it simplifies the data tree, but what does simplifying a a data tree do to the entire definition?
Hannes, i know this is quite comprehensive list of doubt, but your help is and will be always appreciated.
Cheers
AB

eaningful. Humans must interact with it. Information arises when humans examine the data. Knowledge is created when information is transformed through human social interactions.”
Richard Gayle via spacecollective
The space in which we live can be monitored in many aspects and appears to be to be a gradient of data in continuous evolution and change. One of the major advantages of parametric tools is to be able to inform the design processes with accurate, specific and variable, in space and time, data streams .
DATA BODIES is a Grasshopper workshop that will focus on how its nature as an information processor and how it can be (ab)used in order to manipulate data, streaming inputs from various sources and use datafeeds to inform geometry or data structures from the very simple up to more complex ones. The aim is to give an understanding of information and data articultion as already a spatial and architectural operation; results may range from pure data communication protocols, dataviz or data-driven geometries depending on the skill levels and aspirations of each participant. The brief is also open to the suggestions and opportunities that may rise during the workflow.

DP ($$$ aside), GC, and Grasshopper. Arthur’s original question is very important
and the exact question (and hopefully answer) I was hoping to find on a
forum.
“How to take intelligent 3D parametric generative design models (scripting, etc.) into 2D documents?" Or, deliver the 3D design for evaluation, bid, construction, etc.
I am intrigued by Jon’s comments in the same thread and would like to know how I can learn more about the process (and
pitfalls) of turning over a 3D digital generative models to a contractor/fabricator.
Are there any industry guidelines established I could use as a reference to guide our firm through this type of uncharted territory?
Arthur’s question is very reminiscent of 10 years ago when I was frustrated with the amount of time spent on the development of a 3D model design (physical and/or virtual) only to have to wipe the table clean and start the process all over again in 2D in order to document the project for delivery. From this I jumped head first into BIM and Revit, vowing never to go back to unintelligent 2D line work. I am now working on Bentley software (v8i: Microstation and Bentley Architecture) with the access and desire to venture into Generative Components. I am very intrigued by Rhino/Grasshopper primarily with the apparent ease of use and available resources assisting in the learning process – something not really available with Bentley.
In hindsight, as I am doing my software research I think the current use of Revit and BA (Bentley Architecture) are more of a “bridge”
between the past (decades of digital 2D work, i.e. AutoCAD) and where hopefully
we all will be someday in the near future (100% 3D modeling, i.e. Digital
Project??). Without having the experience
it would appear that DP/CATIA (PLM software) are closer to this than any other
type of software. As complicated as the
industry standards are for the automobile and airline industry, I feel we
(architectural industry and others) are heading in a similar direction with
total understanding (PLM/ Evidence Based Design) of a design (a whole other topic). If anything I think the market will begin to
demand it sooner or later.
Gehry (DP) article NY Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/11/business/11gehry.html
I know these type of broad discussions (software vs. software) can be blown out of proportion on forums, but I am would like to read
the pulse of those who are already in the trenches (using Grasshopper, CATIA, Digital Project, Generative Components, others??) and hear your thoughts. Just as valuable would be other threads,
industry articles/reviews of 3D parametric generative design software.
Thanks,
Boyd…

them can be addressed before winter.
Bugs:
. Vector preview is great, but it doesn't refresh (clear) when you disconnect components. You must delete the component or reconnect to refresh the vector previews.
. When passing values through a note pad, note pad fails to update continuously. Moving the notepad updates the display.
. Cannot pass a notepad integer into an fx1
. Point preview in RH5 appears as large red blocks, not as red crosses. (This is an old bug, may have been fixed with RH5 update in the meantime.)
. After adjusting Graph in dialog box, graph appears to be a solid grey object until moved.
. After copying and pasting, a lot of components are broken, return nulls. Requires reconnect to recompute (haven't had this problem in a while, will see if I can find a file that recreates it)
. BIG ONE: Loading a graph mapper with a file not found creates broken file... graph mapper disappears off canvas and the output wire appears turns orange and appears to be coming from the 0,0 pixel of the canvas. This happens any time you try to port a .ghx file to another system with different drive letters/paths, etc.
Wish list:
Mass addition for vectors
Interactive domain control for Image Sampler (like with Gradient Mapper)
Allow Addition Component to handle String values (A + B = AB)
BIG ONE: Request Override for Icon display for Parameters, Wireless receiver, and script components if you change the name
BIG ONE: Add new behavior for Stream Filter and Stream Gate: Allow multiple index numbers. The Index number picks the value/object in the corresponding index position in the selected list.
For instance:
List 0: A, B, C, D, E
List 1: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
List 2: .1, .2, .3, .4, .5
Index Stream: 0, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 0, 1
Results: A, .2, .3, 4, 5 (This is new behaviour and more useful than Weaving)
I have attached a GHX that includes VB components that do this, but it would be better to have GH components with I/O manager options and data matching behavior, etc.
