p 10 "Scripting Reality – Integrating 3D Point Clouds in parametric design workflows".
This research-based workshop will introduce participants to thegeometrical class of point clouds and ways to handle, manipulate, analyse and script with them. Participants will as well have the chance to get first-hand knowledge in the handling of 3d capturing devices and to link their outputs directly into a design environment.
The workshop poses especially the question of how changes on architectural scale can be tracked over time. Related algorithmic concepts and the Volvox plugin, allow for the first time to directly access and manipulate point clouds in a parametric design environment, will be introduced to the workshop participants. A 1:1 experiment on the ETH campus will provide a testbed. Participants will learn point cloud processing and learn to track objects solely on the base of point cloud analysis, find deviations against the planned and visualise the results.
The workshop is led by Mateusz Zwierzycki, Martin Tamke and Henrik Leander Evers. FARO provides several 3d scanners with helical adapters and acccess to the FARO SDK for the workshop. The workshop is modestly priced with 160CHF.

" (idiomatic) and easy way of doing things.So here come some basic questions:
Is there a way to create custom components by grouping an existing sub-network together? I'm looking for a way to re-use parts of a program (something similar to subroutines), and to make the network look less cluttered. I found that it is possible to group components (ctrl-g), but this still displays them as separate blocks (too much clutter), and provides no way to re-use a sub-network in such a way that if it is modified in one place, all it's instances (all the places where it is re-used) also get modified.
Is there a component that does nothing, just passes a signal through? Suppose I need to connect block A to blocks B1, B2, B3 (all three get the same input). Then I change my mind, and I decide to connect block C to these three, not A. In this case it will be necessary to change three connections, not just one. I'm looking for an easy way to do this by a single rewiring, not three. (This came up in a practical situation).
Finally, a related question: is there a component that acts as a switch, so I can choose which signal it passes through out of a possible set of choices? For example, suppose that a set of objects can be coloured based on a number of different properties (size, positions, rotation, etc.) I'm looking for a way to switch between these very easily, without the need to do much rewiring.
Thank you in advance for any replies / useful comments, even general ones on how to easily structure a large Grasshopper program/network.…
ice 2007. So I went out and bought Office 2010, and all my Excel interopservices vb.net scripts are now failing. They had all worked fine before...now when I execute they give the following error:
error: Invalid class string (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800401F3 (CO_E_CLASSSTRING)) (line: 0)
Here's the boiled down script:
If activate = True Then
Dim oldCI As System.Globalization.CultureInfo = system.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture
System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = New System.Globalization.CultureInfo("en-US")
Dim xlApp As Object
xlApp = System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.GetActiveObject("Excel.Application")
Dim xlSheet As Object
xlSheet = xlApp.ActiveSheet
xlSheet.Range("A1").Value = "test"
End If
The failure happens with the addition of the InteropServices line. I'm mid-project right now, and it's pretty critical that I regain the ability to go back and forth from GH to Excel in the scripting environment...does anyone know if I need to deactivate any security options in Windows, make sure any dll's are properly installed...anything? I've tried all of the other Excel components that various users here have already been generous enough to share (my scripts are all based on them). I can't seem to find any documentation (that I understand) about this particular error message, or how to fix it. Really could use a little help!
thanks in advance,
Dave…

is post on the same subject: http://www.radiance-online.org/pipermail/radiance-general/2008-March/004856.html
But I don't understand exactly how to assign the materials to the surface.
When I use the Honeybee_CreateHBSrfs component it gives me an error:
1. Solution exception:Faild to import void glass glass_alt_mat003 0.96 0.96 0.96
void brightfunc glass_angular_effect2 A1+(1-A1)*(exp(-5.85*Rdot)-0.00287989916) .01 0.08
glass_angular_effect mirror glass_mat1 glass_alt_mat03 1 1 1
Have you ever solved the same issue? If possible, how would you simulate this effect with Honeybee?
Any help would be appreciated…
oxes in the most efficient way within boundaries of object and follow the following constraints. The Goal: To fit 125 boxes in the most efficient way inside the total area. Starting Variables: (1) 40% of the Boxes need to be between 60 and 85MSQ. (2) 40% of the boxes need to be between 86 and 110MSQ.
(3) 20% of the boxes need to be between 111 and 125mSQ. The breakdown doesn’t have to be exact to give the script some flexibility. Meaning you can have 41% +39% +20% = 100%.
Constraints:
1. A total MAXIMUM area of approximately 1600M per layer.
2. A maximum of 8 layers for a total of 12,800M per layer. Optimization can make as little or as many as 8 layers vertical to accommodate all boxes. So if script can achieve with 3 levels great. If needed all 8 levels, that's fine too. However, pay attention to next constraint (#3).
3. Approximately 15% of that space on each layer is off limits. (internal area) (blue area in example script) and the shape of the boundary cannot be modified to accommodate box design resulting in jagged lines for the internal area.
4. All generated squares/rectangles must have at least 3m touching an outside border (The Green lines).
5. All boxes must also be touching minimum 1M of border of the blue line.
6. If the boxes generated go outside the green boundary, they must be fillet to maintain the straight lines of the green boundaries.
7. Get as many of the boxes as possible a view towards the dots.
Could any one provide me a method or a way to start, if there are any useful links, please share with me. Thank you!…

ce issue with Rhino and shouldn't make an issue with EnergyPlus but just to have cleaner geometries, I untrimmed base surfaces so zones are closed brep now.
I also noticed that when you are adding multiple openings to a surface, the surface doesn't show-up in the output of createHBZoneFromHBSurfaces. The surfaces are there though and show up once you explode the zone! Again should be a tolerance issue for join. I need to take a closer look to both of these.
Also, in a number of the zones you had wall surfaces connected to createZoneFromHBSurfaces both before and after adding glazing. I removed parent surfaces so you don't end up having duplicate surfaces.
Back to adjacency which was your question, the issue happens since you have couple of zones with the same name so component was assuming them to be the same zone so it wouldn't solve the adjacency (Yes! it shouldn't. That was a bug which is fixed now). I changed the names and now it should find the surfaces that you are looking for.
Moreover, once you solve the adjacency, next solveAdjacency won't overwrite the BC unless you set remCurrentAdj to True.

tunities offering new tools and ways to understand dataflow, performance analysis, logic constructions, etc. Over that statement, I've always observed that a definition is full of information at component level or small groups, but that informed-user-feeling disappears exponentially while you zoom out an get a more general picture of a big definition (small definitions are not a problem due to the good level of information supplied at that zoom factor).
So I though, why not to use this graphic potential to lead to a more complete data representation at low zoom factors in big/very big definitions? Have you ever noticed how annoying is to review big definitions captures printed in A1 project panels? These captures lack any kind of useful information (even if you are an expert in GH)...you can only conclude looking at them how organized or well planed was the definition coding process...but nothing else (not really, you can conclude other stuff, but not at the level that you could expect from a graphic-centric coding tool). Some users has invented ways to give more data to third-person users/tutors...: using panels with text scaled up, using scribble components, importing drawings from rhino...is even more frustrating if you want to explain how the definition works using one of those captures...there are not landmarks, etc to support your speech.
All this lead us to include certain components search (by name, plugin, tab...) into our mapping tool. Could be nice to be able to stack several layers of information visually, and it could lead to a better understanding on GH definitions as a whole and not as small pieces linked together.
Sorry for the big "tocho"...like we say in Spanish.
By the way, the histogram thing sounds great :D…
