d the workshop PDF from this link: http://goo.gl/bcvRNH Download event poster from this link: http://goo.gl/Q0KWCM Brief: Cairo is filled with barriers controlling people movements, suppressing them as well as detaining green and public spaces to the extent that most people have been taking these spaces for granted. Public spaces have been for a while the periphery of our daily life. We will explore in this workshop how we can manipulate and alter people’s perception and direct their attention to how these spaces are integral for city life. This exploration will be backed up by intensive technical tutorials introducing computational design and fabrication techniques and tools mainly Rhino, Grasshopper, Geco and Ecotect. Not only will this be the typical technical workshop, but rather you will also have the chance to be guided step by step on how these tools are used through out different design stages in a real world scenario. Design prototypes will be produced through 3D printing, the main workshop output will be a fabricated one to one functional model for one of the designs using our new in-house CNC machine. Tutors (check the PDF for bio): Olga Kovrikova, MArch DIA Alexandr Kalachev, MArch DIA Karim Soliman, MArch DIA Islam Ibrahim, MArch DIA Sherif Tarabishy, B.Sc. blinds be (B1,B2..B5). Then the geometry for the five iterations will be ((A+B1), (A+B2)...(A+B5)).
And assume that you are measuring illuminance at four points inside the room (x1,x2,x3,x4) and one point outside the room(y1).
The way Daysim works ( and should work as per the best of my understanding) is that for each setting of the blind (ie. B1,B2,..B5), a separate value of (x1,x2,x3,x4) gets calculated through the Daylight Coefficient Method. So let's say you have illuminance thresholds of (p,q,r,s,t) corresponding to (B1,B2,..B5). What the shade-control algorithm does is that it compares the illuminance at y1 with your threshold of (p,q,..t) and then chooses a value of (x1,x,2,x3,x4) on basis of that. So, when we repeat this process for (365x24=)8760 hours , we end up with a value of a shade setting for each hour which was set on basis of your threshold illuminance values.
I would have gladly answered your question on HB itself, however, I usually work with Daysim directly through commandline.
(BTW, if you are interested in reading more about Daysim google Christoph Reinhart's dissertation on the subject, along with some papers by Zack Rogers).…
nts but as there are polylines and surfaces in it, they are conflicting as the geometries are overlapping and intersecting.
The input for the model is a centre point and four connecting points: we can call them CNT, A, B, C and D. The model works for these points - it's quite complicated with lots of polylines, vector geometry, surfaces, rotations, etc. - but it still works and has an output of two breps.
If I had a compilation of N sets of CNT, A, B, C and D's, is there a way of feeding each of these into the grasshopper in individual sets rather than just plugging in the huge set of numbers - e.g. feeding in CNT1, A1, B1, C1 and D1 and getting a result before moving on to CNT2, A2, B2, C2 and D2?
I've tried looking through tree structures, but it seems to be failing when the size of the set isn't known - e.g. how to extract all the information from trees when N isn't know using list item (i=0, i=1, i=2..., i=N).
I hope I've managed to explain the problem adequately, I can make up an easier to understand Grasshopper model later if I haven't explained well...
Thanks in advance for any comments, pointers, etc.…
polyhedra cells, more specific the Weaire and Phelan structure.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaire%E2%80%93Phelan_structure
The size of each cell is 10mm * 7mm.The whole size of the model that I want to create is a box of 160mm * 160mm * 100mm that is consisted by 900-1000 polyhedra. Moreover this model is going to be 3d printed and imported in a software fro thermal simulations in order to test its performance.First I tried to create a model that it is possible to be 3d printed and has some transformations in order to distinguish for the printer the solid and void part.Although I started with creating blocks and groups and using the array and copy command there are a few problems that I am facing.First the file is "heavy" and not easy to manipulate.Secondly as a next step for my model I want to manipulate the size of the polyhedra in order to create a variety of sizes. For example create smaller sizes of polyhedra at the edges of the model or at the planes of the box and larger polyhedra in the middle of the box.Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed? Is modeling in rhino a good option because until now I have spent hours to built this model and it takes hours also to manipulate.I was thinking to try to use grasshoper 3d as a second option however I am not familiar with the software and think that it might take longer to achieve my goal.Do you have any suggestions for a direction to follow in grasshopper in order to develop my model?I am looking forward for your suggestions.I have also attached some images of the model in this mail.Thank you in advance
Kind regards

e and i get it. If you have time check the attached papers we published a while ago in relation to the contribution of thermal mass in the reduction of temperature in residential buildings. See the nice contribution of the heavy TM or the lower one for light TM.
As for the solarHeatCapacity, your description (of the 50W) is derived on a 1 Facade/Floor ratio and fully glazed. The only way to reduce it is to increase the ratio (bigger facade area). Which is not recommended (energy losses), but this is a different issue. So, roughly, we can say that 50 is the lower value. If i have less glazing area this number will be higher (right?)
I want to define a value list of "architectural situations", so it is easy to explain and understand. One situation can be:
"Ratio facade/floor 1 & Fully glazed" = 50
"Ratio facade/floor 1 & Half glazed" = 75
"Ratio facade/floor 1.5 & Fully glazed" = 30
"Ratio facade/floor 1.5 & Half glazed" = 50
"Ratio facade/floor 0.75 & Fully glazed" = 70
"Ratio facade/floor 0.75 & Half glazed" = 90
Makes sense for you something like this?
I also defined a value list for the timeConstant like this:
Light Building (Mobile home) = 1Medium-light building (Cement tiles on floor) = 4Semi Heavy Building (Concrete floor + Tiles) = 8Heavy Building (Concrete floors/ceilings + Heavy external and internal walls) = 12
As for the first 5-10 cm effective TM in general my assumption is that you take half of the mass to your space and half to the space above/below you. Will be interesting to do a parametric study on just the thermal mass, uninsulated and insulated to see what the depth limits effectivity will be. Interested in doing such a study together? Can be a nice work even for publishing.
Thanks a lot ... again,

In this case we see a geometrically approach, which doesn’t works efficient, because it required knowing how they behaviors together before, and I think it is not the ‘really behaves’.
To make the structure ‘really behaves’ I tried use kangaroo and the result works very well! As you can see I simply give the 2-set reverse UForce, and then they start to rotate until they found their equilibrium. That means 90 degree rotation. I was wondering what we can do to make a endless-rotation. I am mean 360 degree or more like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4owFczeqqMQ
By the way, I try to give supports which allow a horizontal movement only (Just curious how we could keep the anchor-movement horizontally and in the same layer, for example like usual supports for compression ring…). I use the AnchorXYZ, but Kangaroo-Engine seems don’t accept its output.
So maybe some one knows a better solution?

problem later) to fit more shapes that are otherwise won't fit in.
On the example below horizontal rectangle couldn't fit in but its rotated analog could and thus was placed in.
Later, when placed shapes are used to generate frames, because of this rotation, the position of the starting points changes and because of the approach I use to generate the frames some angle values are attached to the wrong corners, this brakes the frame shape and looks like this (on the left the frame of sick shape and on the right the frame of the healthy shape):
Again, this happens because the angle values are assigned to the specific corners (points) and previously rotated shapes get these all messed up:
Easy fix, don't rotate the shapes, problem is, I've already baked a good number of them for later use. I'd like to avoid regeneration because it takes a lot of time and without rotation I constrict the algorithm even more.
Better fix, use a different approach, this is where I'd like to hear suggestions and kicks in a right direction. Please take a look at my definition. It works but I have a feeling like giving an amputee a job of sweeping the floor.

. etc. So it's 80020 which is ~1058. Assuming you're allowed to use the same component more than once.
1058 × 1049 = 10107 total possible algorithms. When talking about big numbers I only have three frames of reference. The distance from us to the edge of the observable universe is roughly 1029 millimeters, the observable universe contains 1080 protons and the volume of the observable universe is roughly 5×10105 cubic nanometers. So you could more or less put a different valid Grasshopper algorithm into every cubic nanometer of this universe.
