Topic: Offset/Copy points along Curve and split Curve at those points
nd now need to be connected to each other. In order to be able to arrange the connections any way I want, I've manually (and this is why I've avoided the 'DivideCurve' command) distributed some points on one ring, and then projected them onto the next together with a line. Very straightforward! But as I intend to offset a second point from the first one in order to be able to cohesively decide the width of each connection, I've run into problems:Firstly - I can't seem to find a command which allow me to offset or copy set points along the curve. But there must be a way, seems like such a basic command!?Secondly - I'm not sure what the best way would be in order to create surfaces out of these new lines (in the same manner as the already extruded rings). I've tried to divide the enclosed curves with the 'Shatter' command, and try take it from there, but I can't seem to make it right. If anyone's got any tips, I'd be happy to hear them! …

Topic: Need Help - Don't know what to call this...
of the surface.  The "ridges" will be the high-point, if you will, and the surface will gradually taper down to the edge from that point.  So the taper or curve will be different for both the top edge and bottom edge, depending on how far the ridge is from each edge.  The same is true for the valley between the ridges.  If the edge of the surface is 0, and the ridge is 10, the valley will fall somewhere between 1-9. I do not know how to model this.. i've tried many different ways, but can't seem to get anything to follow a curve or line and extrude like I want it.  Anything close would be great at this point.  Worst part... I don't even know what to Google... what kind of action is this called? Anyway, I've attached an image to help explain what I'm trying to do.  Though crude, hopefully to makes sense of what I'm trying to do/say. Thank you! Topic: [FAQ] Where to find .epw weather data?
2. One building.com is also coming around > (http://climate.onebuilding.org/). Their data is limited right now but they are working on that and also unlike the first resource the data has been through quality checks. 3. There are a couple of weather files available on EnergyPlus mailing list (https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/EnergyPlus_Support/files/Meteonorm_Weather_Files/Asia/) which are generated by MeteoNorm (http://meteonorm.com/). Commercial: 4. WeatherAnalytics:  http://www.weatheranalytics.com/wa/products/data-weather-files/ 5. WhiteBox technologies: http://weather.whiteboxtechnologies.com PS: I started a project to plot all these resources on a single epwmap. #WIP …

Topic: Multithreaded Daylight Simulations
same simulation with two different settings, with _numOfCUPs_ set to 1 and again with it set to 10.  I'm running it on a 6 core/12 thread CPU so I should have no problem handling 10 threads. I've attached an Excel file with my results for how long it took with a single thread vs. how long each of threads took on the 10 thread run.  What it amounts to is that with a single thread it took 51 minutes, and with the 10 thread option it took 47 minutes for it all to finish.  With the latter the first 9 threads finished between 28-34 minutes which is a significant time savings over the single thread run, but the last thread still took almost as long and gave us only about an 8% time savings. This is only one simple comparison and only one simulation type, but I've seen this same result happen over and over again over the past year or so with several simulations (annual, irradiance, illuminance,...).  I also don't think it's necessarily a Honeybee problem, because even running the simulations myself by creating the octree mesh and running radiance and daysim from the command line I had the same issue where splitting a model up and running parallel simulations that were then recombined took just about as long as running it all in one thread.  Add into this the time necessary to combine the different files at the end and your multithreading time savings become even less. So is it me, my machine, radiance, bad karma?…

Topic: origami cylinder shape simulation
n.It could fold but cannot control the shape it generating. So i try to give it a string force to make it become a cylinder shape, but it doesnt work so well. It work much better if i just want a half of the cylinder. At the beginning i think maybe i just need to show half of a cylinder is still fine, because time pressure, i don't want to spend too much time on this simulation, half of the cylinder still could show how the folding behave. And i could also mirror half of the  cylinder folding surface and try to fix the connection area in Rhino. When the folding pattern is simple is fine, but when it is making a curved folding it behave very strange in some area. So i try to use curve pull from Kangaroo to pull some points of the folding edges on a curve to make it look more normal. At the beginning, i make a text to pull 2 points to a curve. But it doesn't work at all. Hope somebody could give me some help for that. Maybe if you have another good idea to make the simulate it would be great.…

Topic: Open/Close Brep and IndoorViewFactor issue
a file with the issues i want to ask. I'm defining a zone from a rhino model. I've built. rebuild and rebuild this model since at the end of the line all the time i was getting an open brep as the HB_zone definition. I'm still getting this (See 1 in the file). But the E+ simulation runs. Just for checking i imported the idf file. In this case the zone is Closed (Weird. See 2 in file). After this simulation the IndoorViewFactor component is failing with either of those two warnings: 1. When the input to the distFromFloor input is a panel i get this (see 3 in file): 1. The distFromFloor_ is greater than the height of one or more of the zones. I remember that there was a problem when the zone was not on the ground, but it was fixed. So i don't understand the warning. 2. When the same input is a slider i get this (see 4 in file): 1. One of your continuous closed air volumes has an overlapping edge that is causing it to not read as a solid.  Bake the closedAirVolumes output and do a DupBorder command on the polysurface to see the buggy edge.  Rhino's solid operations are buggy. Hopefully McNeel fix this one soon. I cleaned the model from those overlapping edges, but still, is not working. Any words of wisdom? Thanks, -A.…

Topic: Data Trees vs. Objects
green & B in red.  These surfaces are at the centerlines of thicker beams in the model (not shown). I have a list of "Intersections", the yellow vertical lines, usually four at each point the beams intersect (85 points or 340 intersections expected, though there are only 335). What I'm trying to do is "get" the list of yellow vertical lines for each beam and keep them "associated", so that I can re-orient them with the thick beams in a flat, "nested" layout. These intersections will appear in two sets of lists, one for beams "A" and another for beams "B". I found and hacked a bit of C# script to partition the sorted list of indexes but not the related list of intersections ("Line-like Curves"). In this case, the data trees aren't working for me.  I want "beam objects" with arbitrary properties, such as lists of intersections.  Are there ways to do this "easily" in GH without resorting to C#, VB or Python?…

Topic: Lunchbox Mobius Strip exercise
that intersects itself, so I had to break the surface down into three pieces, remove the holes and then re-assemble it again.  I had various problems with surface continuity - it turns out that if you define the Mobius strip to have domain -2Pi to +2Pi then the ends join up nicely, but if you give it other domains, it either fails to join up or it overlaps itself.  I think the UV extents must be based on the edges and not on the centre line. I thickened up the surface, using Weaverbird.  This has to be done from both sides, since Mobius strips have a twist! Anyway, I'm attaching my .gh file in the hope that someone can improve on it - I would love some instruction on how to do this better!  How do I get rid of the seams?  It looks bad on the render, although seems to vanish in the stl file I sent to Shapeways.  You will need Lunchbox, and if you care about the thickening, then also Weaverbird. Topic: Adjust surrounding ponds with the sizes of service centers
centers within 500m distance. Then draw a line to link them up their respective circle center. (I have achieved it so far.) But for the last step. I need to draw circles at each end point of the closest point clouds to indicate the proposed ponds locations. Area of these circles need to be proportional to the area with the closest circle center. (I failed)  I mean if points 1,2,3,4,5 are linked up by the same circle center, They are meant to have the same area for their circles. But the result here shows that these resulting circles are all in different sizes which is not proportionately right to the circle center. Please help. adjust%20surrounding%20ponds%20with%20the%20size%20of%20service%20center.gh…

Topic: Rotating Circles- constant length connecting line query
ross the circles (please see image below).  As the planes of the circles are offset by 100, the length of each of the lines is also 100. I have set up a slider so that one of the circles can be rotated from -180 degrees to +180 degrees. I would like the length of the connecting lines to remain constant, at 100, thus moving the circles closer together as one of the circles is rotated.   I'm leaning towards using a range, and plugging in the rotation angle and length of the lines somehow, but am unclear as to how best to go about this.  I am new to grasshopper, so would very much appreciate any tips about the next step I should explore. I've attached the grasshopper file and some images below. Many thanks in advance! Sarah    …
