New SkinDesigner/Ladybug Tutorial by Ladybug co-developer Chris Mackey

Hi All,

I just want to recommend everyone to watch this new video in our YouTube Tutorials section explaining a workflow that integrates Ladybug with SkinDesigner to generate environmentally responsive skins. A must for anyone interested in performative facade design.

Special thanks to Chris Mackey for putting this together!

Script also available for download in Hydra.

Enjoy!

Hi Santiago,

First of all, thank you very much for your help. Really!!

I have a great doubt. How can I use the component output that can be seen in the image, to convert it to a Honeybee surface, to finally create a honeybee zone?... look at the attached image and the file. Will the problem be the intersection between the floor and the facades?
My objective is to do an energy analysis with the final model with that facades.

I already put it on the ladybug and honeybee forum, but maybe you can help me in this interoperability between Skindesigner and Honeybee.

Thank you so much for everything.

Greetings,

António

Hi Antonio,

I looked at your script. Being not more than a occasional user of LB/HB I did see a couple of things that were probably generating the error:

1) I added the LB/HB component to the SkinGenerator to create simple surfaces on walls/window instead of volumes. Also will make SkinDesigner to ignore mullions (unless you specify a lower threshold) given that may be irrelevant at that dimensions tot he solution.

2) Your slab/ceiling surfaces weren't aligning exactly to the walls, I decided to ignore those surfaces and produce those by capping the walls and creating solids, that ensured to be a closed volume as is requested by the HB Zone component.

3) added a required name

Attached the screen capture below and highlighted in red the modifications, also attached the revised gh file.

Hope that helps,

Santiago

Hi Santiago,

I am grateful for your big help Santiago. Thanks.
I was adjusting the measurements of the building to eliminate incompatibilities. I think I have cleaned up the mistakes that existed. So far everything is going well, even with the transition from skindesigner surfaces to form HBzone ... The only thing that is not working are the glazing ... These though are recognized as a normal surface and "HBzone is closed" , the glazing is not properly recognized as an HBsurface.

By the attached image you can see the wall, the floor / ceiling, shading system, but you can't see (because it is not recognized) the glazing.

I hope you understand my doubt.

Greetings,

António

Hi Antonio,

I see, I did open the solution and on the geometry side everything looks good. The issue with the glazing is unfortunately beyond knowledge of HB. I would only suggest trying addGlazing if you didn't already, and see if that does the trick.

Otherwise, a legitimate LG/HB forum question, hope they help you there with it.

Santiago
