Hi Daniel,

When you refernce a base surface, you are bound, at least initially, by it parameterization (indicated by the direction of u & v isocurves). If you bake your "brep" and turn on control points (PointsOn command in Rhino), you will see these directions.
If you are interested in a completely different direction, then you need to build a network of curves and use those as guiding geometry for you grid. See the attached workflow.
