algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I've been trying to simulate a structure for a test model that I built using wood.

I used a modified version of the 'stress colors' definition on this page ( http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/kangaroo/forum/topics/getting-sp... )

While its not the most optimized structure, the physical model does stand perfectly fine (takes up to 500 pounds of load as well) especially at the scale its built at, yet I cant seem to get it to work in kangaroo even through the stiffness setting is pretty high. Is there something need do to change the type of joints between the members. The structure is only anchored at the bottom. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kangaroo isn't set up to let you define moment connections at joints...while you can constrain movement along different axes, your joints will otherwise operate as pins. This means that it will work fine for any fully triangulated structure (as in the link you provided), but it doesn't look like you have that here. I'd suggest using a finite element solver like Millipede or Karamba.

Yeah that makes sense. Alright I'll have a look at those

Thank you very much David.
