DIVA for Rhino

DIVA-for-Rhino is a plugin which runs thermal, daylight, solar radiation, and glare simulations. Our goal is to bring validated environmental simulations directly to the conceptual design environments of Rhino and Grasshopper.

Hello. I've been looking forward to run DIVA in my computer, but when I drag the DIVA.rhp file to Rhino I get the message that I should get the latest release of Rhino. Nevertheless I run SR8 in Rhino4 with any problems. I have successfully installed all the other components (Radiance, Daysim, etc). I managed to install also the GH components. Could someone help me? Thanks.

Thanks for developing this great plug-in.

I have a few questions regarding the thermal analysis component.

In viper component, I can see that direct and diffuse solar energy are available in outputs. Is there anyway to extract the transmitted/absorbed solar energy into the zone?

Does the one of the Viper inputs, “People”(number of people/m2), take consideration into occupancy difference throughout the day? If so, is it possible to see what the different percentages are? Better yet, is it possible to customize the percentage on hourly basis?

When would DIVA 2.0 be publicly available? I can't wait to see it.

Thanks.

Joo Suk,

Try upgrading to the latest version of Grasshopper (0.8.0062).  The serialization methods in GH have changed since 0.8.0051, which may explain the crashes and read/write issues.

ps.  Let's start moving these up to the Discussion Forum, so we can follow the threads.

Thanks for the great plug-in. I have a couple of problems, though.

I used to have the older version of DIVA for Rhino and just upgraded it to version 1.901 as well as upgrading Rhino to versio 4 SR9 from SR8. I have the GH version 08.0051 installed on my computer.

1. I followed the video tutorials, everything worked fine. However, when I re-launched the GH and tried to open the files I saved. with this errror message saying " Missing object chunk in archive. An object could not be found in the document..." all the DIVA components in the files were gone. Could you tell me why that happened?

2. It seems like the latest version of DIVA crashes more often than the previous verion. Any possible reasons?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Nickudi,

The radiation map is using the local weather file to create a cumulative sky. The approach DIVA uses is described in a paper by Robinson and Stone:
http://alexandria.tue.nl/openaccess/635611/p1153final.pdf
It helps to have a general sense of what the annual solar radiation on a flat surface for you climate is from other sources just as a reality check, this can be found on google. As I recall for Boston, Diva produces a value of 1300-1400 kWh/m2 for a year. This value can vary widely by climate location and conditions and obviously context blocking access to the sky.

Hi all,

first of all, great work, i love the plug-in..

I am at the moment using DIVA for a node radiation map of a facade, and i have a question about the calculation of that. I have results (the client thinks they are way to high) which needs to be proven manually. So my question is: how is Diva calculating the radiation nodes on a plane (simple isolated plane surface), which values from the project info file are used for this calculation and what is the formula of this calculation?

Thanks for your help...
