Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me figure this out. I want to generate

a slotted cutting list for the pixels shown in the image. Each node has 3 intersecting planes which are orientated to a certain angle to produce 3 different images from 3 views. I was told to look at bowerbird, but i am having some issues with  generating the slots, i have a reference sphere for each node and the cutting planes (or so i think). The original geometry was generated in cinema 4d, and i was told grasshopper would be good in terms of fabricating.

If anyone can help i'd appreciate it

hope i'm not approaching this in a long winded way, but any help would be great

this photo illustrates how i hope to extend one of the pixels and have it feed back into a main board, so that the orientation of each pixel/node is correct

how i do this is news to me at the mo

i have some issues, the slotting isn't working for the other nodes? :s

the positions of the slots are not where they should be

correction the slotting is working, but the boolean cut distances have to be altered manually in the definition dependent on the node/pixel. some pixels are the same which is good but it is still a slow process fixing slot distances

Hi,

I've had a look at your definition and here's my thoughts (i've also attached a definition):

Firstly, when you attach the geometry to grasshopper, I would graft the brep components so you can manage the data structures easier.

The next issue is that when you attach an entire layer, the order of the objects inside the selection is a little random, so the groups of three circles become scrambled. To fix this, you can sort them by the coordinates of their centres (assuming you have all of them in the yz plane) otherwise just change the sorting directions to what suits you.

To split the surfaces, something like this should work:

Try to see if you can implement them into the script and give us an update.

How is the lollipop geometry progressing?

Best

Thank you andrei i will implement this. Don't really know much about grafting?

the lollipop is not progressing yet but i will have to add geometry to the edge of one of the sets of circles eventually. i will keep you posted for sure.
