Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

What's the best way to get familiar with Grasshopper SDK?

Hi,

I have been programming under C# component in grasshopper for a while and I find it essential to know more about Grasshopper SDK. I downloaded the SDK doc via grasshopper help menu and I found there are only a few basic examples which seem to be insuffient to get familiar with this SDK(especially Grasshopper.Kernel Namespace). I learned from my experience that the best to learn a new library is to view good examples written by other people. Are there any centralized resources which full of codes relies heavily on Grasshopper SDK? What is the best way to get familiar with this SDK in a relatively short time?

Thanks

Hi Jerome,

there are almost no examples out there. The Grasshopper SDK is not very fixed yet, I keep on changing it almost on a daily basis. Most of these changes are invisible to component developers, but it would still be annoying to have to write tutorials and documentation for something as volatile as the Grasshopper.Kernel namespace.

If you have any specific questions I'll be happy to answer them of course, but Grasshopper.Kernel is huge

What sort of things are you doing from within C# Script components that you need to use the Grasshopper SDK at all? Are you just looking for utility functions or ....?

Thanks, David.

I see... Well, I haven't encountered any problems that need the help from Grasshopper SDK. Because I am quite unfamilier with it so sometimes I was just wondering if there was some mysterious power that lies in it which could help me to get things right. That's why I want to peek something inside this hood.

Thanks!
