Untrimmed [probably minimal] srf

hello,

Attached is file trying to mimic a Bauer sculpture as found here:

I was wondering if it was possible to create the same thing without the edges. in Rhino it is only possible to use symmetry, merge etc. on untrimmed surfaces. this object can be copied and developed in all directions; I assume the srf should be tangent to all the edges to make that possible. 

closest I could get is the gh file attached, but I have a feeling that I am doing sth wrong.

any ideas?
