You need shatter component. This will requests the parameter on the curve where to make the cut, but as you have not shared the file, we can only give you a general answer, I hope you serve.

Hey, 

Thanks for replying. I've been trying the shatter command but have not been successful. I'll give your method a shot. What's the name of the icon from the 2nd row down. It looks like a list item but isn't.

This is what normally happens when I try to make the shatter. Is there a reason for this?
