tricky coomponent

hi all,

i am trying to create a component in grasshopper which is based on a deformed octagonal grid (image attached). the component is controlled through a slider which can increase and decrease the gap in between the two ends.

i have created the octagonal grid but am unable to move beyond that. can any one help??
