algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone think of any way to simply track changes through a number of revisions of the same definition file?

I've been painstakingly trying to record and remember the changes I made to a model in a log, but unfortunately I'm too lazy to do it frequently so its a hell of a task. It's one thing knowing which definition succeeded another one, but for a large canvas its very difficult to find the differences between the two retrospectively.

What would be really nice would be some tool to compare the currently open definition with another one. It would:

a) Highlight how the "topology" has changed. ie, which components have been added/disappeared.

b) Highlight which input components (panels/sliders etc) have been altered.

Maybe one for David, but if anyone has any thoughts I'd be glad to hear them.

Regards,

Dan

it's super half baked but we managed to build a "Diff" tool for GH definitions that could visualize the added/changed/removed components in a definition at a hackathon. All the source code is here if you want to dig thru it! https://github.com/oderby/VVD - can't promise it will be much practical use though.

Andrew, this looks like exactly what I was thinking about. Thanks so much! I will have a dig through and let you know how I get on. I'd been reduced to using the canvas snapshot in image comparison tools to pick out which bits had been changed. This offers some hope.
