The "simplest" tasks always seem to be the most difficult

I am attempting to create a series of aluminum panels that will have slight variations.

The idea was simple,... Take a Voronoi (2d) and connect the center points to the cell end points.

The problem is that when I try to Trim the offset lines I cannot get a consistent outcome. I get the error message "region is empty."

I have tried extruding the planes up and Boolean Union, but still no luck.

I would appreciate any help!!
