algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I've been running into a problem with a task that I think *should* be pretty straightforward (and which I'll be able to use for a few different applications*)

Basically, I want to create a component that will take text objects from Rhino and return the text object base point and the text contents. I've searched through the forum, and though there are a few threads asking about similar topics, but most of the discussions are old, and I wonder if there are some new methods that might be more efficient.

My first guess at the logic is this (but I don't know enough VB to write it up from scratch... if someone can help with a few lines of code I'm pretty sure I can adapt it to work...). Please see attached image for how I envision this looking - very simple...

any ideas?

*Applications: 1) Creating topography surfaces from a set of text objects with elevation data. 2) Creating city-scale massing from a set of plot outlines, each containing a FAR value as a text object. 3) Pull in, say, daylight incidence data from a plan. 4)Etc, etc. Could be really useful.

Trying some alternative search terms, I found this thread: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/get-object-name-when

which seems VERY close to what I'm looking for - but I have no idea what properties are available, aside from "name" - can anyone point me to a list/tutorial? I've dabbled with VB in the past but I'm incredibly out of practice. thanks in advance!
